This position allows me to gain a complete clinical picture of each patient undergoing heart surgery at BJH through the review of past medical history, diagnostic reports, inpatient health records, and follow up visits. BJH does a wide variety of surgeries including but not limited to valve repairs and replacements, cabbages, aortic procedures, LVADs, heart transplants, and ECMO placement and management. This position requires that I understand the clinical picture preop, intraop, postop, and post discharge of cardiac patients.Within this role, I also assist in the operating room during the Cox Maze Procedure. During this procedure, I collect data and I run the cryoabalation and radiofrequency ablation machines at the surgeon's direction. Through this role I have a wide variety of different responsibilities. I am a part of the cardiac surgery steering committee which includes leadership, clinicians, and surgeons from BJH and WUSTL School of Medicine. This group is committed to making the cardiac surgery inpatient stay process more streamlined as well as identifying areas that we can improve patient care and outcomes. I have also identified and implemented training strategies and processes within my own office to adequately train individuals completing the cardiac STS data collection form. Show more Show less
