News Reporter
-
Aug 2017 - Present
I pitch story ideas and gather and verify information for stories by conducting interviews, doing research, analyzing reports and submitting public records requests. I shoot b-roll, film stand-ups, write scripts, and edit packages and VO/SOTs for Tiger TV's weekly newscasts. I also give live reports from sites of events using LiveU and write web copy in alignment with AP style.

Social Media Director
-
Jan 2019 - May 2019
I ensured that reporters were sharing their stories on Tiger TV's social media accounts, writing web copy and posting their stories to YouTube and the website. I was also responsible for wring stories and getting the information out as soon as possible when breaking news struck.

News Producer
-
Aug 2018 - Dec 2018
I produced Thursday's Newsbeat, a weekly 15-minute news show. Every week I held pitch meetings with reporters and assigned the stories they would turn for the following week's Newsbeat. For the show, I combined student reporters' packages and VO/SOTs with national stories taken from CNN news source to create a news show tailored for LSU students. I strategically organized the order that packages and VO/SOTs ran during the show in the show's rundown, helped reporters write anchor intros and tags for their stories and wrote anchor intros and tags for national stories downloaded from CNN. I also determined which anchor would read the script off of the prompter at given times and decided which camera and from what angle the anchors would read from. In the event of breaking news during the live show, I would use my news judgement to promptly cut stories of lesser importance and add details about the current breaking news while ensuring the show still ran smoothly without interruption. Further, I set up live shots using LiveU as well as a live stream for the show so anyone could watch the show live from their computers and phones. Show less

News Intern
-
Jan 2019 - May 2019
I began every morning by sitting in the pitch meeting with the reporters. I shadowed a news reporter all day, observing how they shot b-roll, fact-checked information, conducted interviews, etc. I also shot stand-ups and practiced live shots while we were out working on the story. Upon returning to the television station, the news reporter I shadowed that day worked on their package. Meanwhile, I worked on writing and editing my own package. Not only did this improve my writing and editing skills, but I learned to produce packages and VO/SOTs at a much faster rate. Show less

Videographer/Photographer

As the videographer and photographer for LSU UREC, the university's gym and recreation center, I did a variety of things. Most of the time, I was filming and editing videos about the classes and services that UREC provided. I made fun, creative videos for events UREC held, camps UREC hosted, intramural sports UREC offered, etc. My favorite project as LSU UREC's videographer/photographer was filming and creating a 5-video series called "UREC USWAP". In each video, two people who had completely different workout routines swapped workouts for the day and talked about what they learned from the experience. For example, in one video a personal trainer and a yoga teacher swapped workout routines. In another video, an LSU professor who swims at UREC every day swapped workout routines with a student who cycles at UREC every day. The idea of the series was to encourage students step out of their comfort zones and try new workouts at UREC. In addition to making these videos, I took pictures for UREC's social media pages, website and advertisements. Show less

I made informational videos for the bank to distribute to their employers at various branches across Louisiana. The CEO, Alton Lewis, called them his "fireside chats." I filmed Mr. Lewis talking about important updates the bank is making, events coming up and other information he wanted the employees to know. I then filmed b-roll and edited the final video, which he emailed to all employees. Mr. Lewis hired me because before the "fireside chat" videos, he would have to organize various meetings to distribute the information, which took precious time out of his schedule and employees' schedules. During the three weekly 15-minute news shows and the one weekly sports show, I had the opportunity to do a multitude of things. I ran the prompter, and I adjusted the audio controls for anchors' microphones, reporters' stories and commercials. I also worked as floor director, setting up the camera for each shot and directing the anchors and reporters to look into which camera at given times.
