•Built rapport with students to better teach each individual child. Co-created a classroom community with students built on mutual respect and student autonomy in the classroom. •Created and performed multidisciplinary lessons, aligned to Common Core standards. •Differentiated instruction for students to reach individualized student success and show growth in all areas of learning, including my English Language Learners and students with special needs. Differentiations included, but are not limited to, different reading materials, different word study lists, and Leveled Literacy Interventions. •Implemented balanced literacy strategies in whole group and small group lessons with workshop materials in writing, reading, and word study. Using a bulletin board display in the classroom, students were exposed to learning targets and expectations for literacy daily. Students showed exponential growth in reading levels, fluency, and writing targets, 80% of the class improving by at least 2 levels. •Engaged students in collaborative conversations in science and Second-Step lessons in order for them to question their own understandings and ask others for help. This technique allowed students to grow as collaborative learners. •Aided in student preparation for mid-year NWEA testing. Students received personalized content interventions based on beginning of the year NWEA scores. With MTSS data, progress was tracked for all whose scores were far below target. Others were tracked using daily check-ins on skills we were building in the classroom, including word problems in math and comprehension questions during whole group read-alouds. •Utilized the social-emotional learning curriculum, Second Step, to engage students in collaborative conversations about different learning topics. Students were better able to communicate their emotions to me and to each other, leading to student-led problem solving in the classroom. Show less
