  My family owns a conifer tree farm where I learned how to take care of soil, plant health, pests and even retail. It was a very labor intensive position that I grew up with and made me into the hard worker that I am today. I still contribute to my families business whenever I'm home.

  As a dietary aide under this employer, I had the opportunity to work in all different positions excluding cooking. These positions included dish washing, serving, desert making and bussing. I learned how to provide comfort to residents with dementia and other special conditions during this time. I was also trusted to train nearly every new employee in several different positions during my time there.



Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center

  The Wyoming Survey & Analysis Center is an organization that provides research to the University of Wyoming and is often contracted by several state health departments and tobacco quit programs across the country to gather information. I was tasked in interviewing random participants in their experiences and health conditions for a better understanding for how the CDC, Montana and Wyoming departments of health, and the Wyoming quit tobacco program can improve their programs.

  Mr. Hart is a family friend that also grows conifer trees that we would help every December. Using the experience I was growing up with on my own family farm, I would primarily help clear brush, trim branches, saw and net trees for customers upon request.

  Having grown up in a tight knit agricultural community, it is an instilled value that neighbors and friends help each other when harvest season comes. Mr. Main grew hay and baled square. It was my job to help pack and throw hay as well as drive a trailer hitched manual truck over precarious ground so that my team could pack and throw behind me. Pay was little but it was the least we could do for a family friend.

  I was employed to provided assistance to field technicians, helping to install and repair telecommunications equipment in residencies and businesses. My coworkers taught me how to work on my own, teaching me how to splice fiber optic and copper lines, troubleshooting techniques, and advanced computer etiquette. I would be rehired by this company during every summer for three years.



North Carolina Youth Conservation Corps

  I spent one summer in high working for the NCYCC as a crew member. I lived on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Watauga County, NC doing whatever labor the park service wanted done in their forests. Tasks would include fixing hiking trails, building fences, and landscaping campgrounds.
