Brian was always prepared and organized. He led his team skillfully and effectively while maintaining excellent creative and cooperative efforts with the director. Even as the director played a main character, Brian performed creatively while communicating exactly what he and his team needed from the production team. Without his collaborative nature the film would not have finished on time.

Being a director takes on three forms- selling, executing, overseeing. At Guy Bauer Productions, I handle all three. From the initial inbound call with a client, to the production of a video, to the molding of the story in editorial, I foster projects from day zero to completion, and guide a diverse team of talented colleagues to always create their best work. The challenges we face are many, from looming deadlines to balancing the art of filmmaking with the need for a clients brand and messaging, but with a strong emphasis on communication, decisiveness and a high level of technical proficiency I’m able to consistently complete projects of high quality, on time and under budget. In addition to being a leader on set, I place a high value on teaching techniques in-house, and often spend my time working with the post-production team helping them improve workflows, learn new techniques, and advance their skills. Working in the world of content creation was an experience that I’ll never forget. It was my first introduction to the documentary style of storytelling, and since then my interests in the format have grown considerably. I had the pleasure of working with producers and writers to develop concepts for on-air segments, both one-off’s and repeated weekly. The opportunity to concept ideas allowed me to try my hand at a variety of styles, from the frenetic fast pace of “Cocktail Swagger” to the more dramatic documentary focused techniques in “Flying Dogs.” Our collaborative work environment allowed us to use projects as a testing ground for new ideas and techniques. In addition to content creation, I also consulted with the team involved in rebranding our content channel, TouchVision. We developed a look and a style guide, and then implemented it across the channel, refocusing the overall direction of content to better align with the mindset of our viewers. My favorite project during this time was “Greylord,” a 30-minute documentary exploring the history of corruption in the Chicago judicial system. Working with the Head Writer, we heavily relied on interviews to tell our story, and put a tremendous amount of effort into treating archival footage, pictures and graphics into a context that would fit within the story, but also establish a mood and feel.
