Management of large-scale railroad-related remediation projects; investigation of multiple release sites at terminal facility in Chicago area; compliance services for railroad and industrial/manufacturing facilities, including storm water management and permitting, spill plans, wastewater permitting, and excess soil management from construction sites; design of half-mile diesel fuel supply line for Chicago's Ogilvie Station in support of Metra train fueling operations; responsible for business development, overall project direction and implementation, including client and stakeholder interfacing, and development and tracking of objectives, scope, budgets and schedules. Implemented an extensive subsurface investigation of LNAPL/DNAPL site at terminal facility, including use of membrane interface probe (MIP) with halogen-specific detector (XSD) and hydraulic profiling tool (HPT) to delineate petroleum versus solvent/CVOC impacts and develop relative hydraulic conductivity model of soils underlying the site. Soil and groundwater samples were collected to validate MIP data, as well as to facilitate advanced NAPL saturation and mobility testing for soil and evaluate the CVOC degradation and natural attenuation capacity in the saturated zone. Results of the investigation were imported to Mining Visualization Software (MVS) to develop a three-dimensional model of the site hydrogeology and distribution of impacts. Findings of the investigation concluded that the NAPLs at the site are in residual, non-mobile form within the denser, lower permeability soils, and that natural attenuation of the contaminants within the groundwater is occurring based on the ratios of parent/progeny compounds within the CVOC families. Based on the investigation findings and use of the site as a terminal facility for the foreseeable future, natural attenuation was presented as the presumptive remedy for the site. Work conducted at this site led to award of three other incident release sites. Show less
