Brian had the opportunity to support three main projects while at Enedym: a static driving simulator with integrated 4-wheel chassis dyno, a Class 8 Fuel Cell vehicle program, and Hardware-in-the-loop simulation activities. The MARC DriveLab Simulator is a research-focused driving simulator involving the integration of industry standard simulation packages from VI-Grade, CarSim, and Simulation Workbench with a static driving simulator and a 4-wheel chassis dyno. Brian assisted with simulator software work surrounding graphics, the driver interface and QOL features. He also investigated potential hardware improvements which involved work on custom PCBs, FPGAs and the Linux kernel. A Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator is a critical tool for hardware and software designers to develop designs in a rapid and economic manner. Brian was responsible for evaluating HIL solutions from different vendors for motor control and vehicle supervisory control purposes. He further supported hardware and software designers by implementing models on the HIL devices. Brian was also heavily involved in the full design cycle of a road-certified, custom-designed, prototype Class 8 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric (FCEV) truck program. From architectural design to detailed design to build and on-road testing. His activities in the lifecycle spanned vehicle modeling, regulatory compliance, software development and electrical design. He wrote or oversaw a half of the vehicle software and was a major contributor in electrical space where he was responsible for implementing a majority of the electrical ECRs as customer requirements evolved. He collaborated with key stakeholders on developing the vehicle test program and at the end of the build phase, he oversaw the vehicle LV/HV bring-up and the execution of the vehicle test program.
