I worked as a Game Developer for the mobile game BRUUT. BRUUT is a 3D multiplayer game created in Unity (C#) in which the gamer controls an army of customizable robots in a turn-based strategy game. Development challenges I dealt with included: creating the terrain mesh by code, developing the robots so that they exist of multiple parts that animate together, designing and integrating the database, lots of optimization, purchasing- and login system and directing trainees. Halfway into the process, I gained the position of Lead Game Designer which made me responsible for evaluations that allowed me to make a lot of changes to create a great and successful game. The design changes I made were: adding more strategy to the game, transforming/improving the revenue model, clarifying and accelerating the gameplay and UI experience, changing the gameplay in a way that gave the Art Department more room to shine with less effort and setting up all the stats in a linked spreadsheets for the units, weapons and products available for purchase. We switched to a turn-based model for more strategy and better control over mobile network latency. It was crucial that the game-flow would not be disrupted by waiting. In order to achieve this, I created the game in a way both players would give their first, second and third actions at the same time for three of their units. This successfully prevented downtime and added a high level of strategy to the game. Being both a Game Developer and Lead Game Designer, I spent my time working on parts of the game where I was needed most. Show less

In 2014, I was one of the two people who started Real Life Gaming. We had the vision to bring people ‘once-in a-lifetime’ game experiences, using actors and special locations. In August we started working on our first project: Prison Escape in the Noordsingel prison in Rotterdam. Prison Escape is a Real Life Game in which people need to try to escape from a real prison. In this experience the participants had to find out who or what to trust and through smart use of objects and creating social alliances scheme their escape within three hours time. In 2015, when most of the designing was done, I also took on the role of head logistics doing the purchasing and I was the backstage coordinator. As backstage coordinator I oversaw eight people during the games and was responsible for the preparation of the experience. During those events, I also worked as an actor. In 2016, as the lead game designer I created new escapes and improved already existing escapes. When the time came for a new website, I helped to design and create reallifegaming.nl. During this year we started developing a new game called Project Mayhem, based on the movie Fight Club. For this project I had a part in the game design. I also did stage fighting for this project. At the end of this year, I had one trainee under my supervision. Late 2016, I started creating the successor of Prison Escape Rotterdam, this time in the city of Breda. With 85 actors and people working backstage during the event and 400 players. The initial creation was done with a team of three people. In the first few months I completely focussed on the design of the new game. The player immersion and delivering a strong experience has always been the most important goal to me. As soon as the design was stable I started to work on the practicalities, making all the purchasements, facility management, the coordination of the new backstage coordinators and acting as well. In the summer of 2018 we had had a total of 100.000 players. Show less

I started here with a small internship from my high school, where I helped them organize an alternate reality game.
