  Drawing from his broad-based technical experience and interests, Brett is comfortable working in a variety of technical areas including optical devices, communications systems, electronics, software, fluid treatment systems and biomechanical devices. Always staying abreast of the latest developments in the law, Brett is a frequent speaker and author of articles on the topics of Patent Infringement, Patent Reform, IP Litigation and Patent Procurement. Brett’s thriving practice has a special emphasis on the automotive industry. All aspects of automotive IP are within his unique expertise, including functional IP (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and software) and design. The digitalization of automobiles in the last 15 years and the role data plays in the driving experience are rapidly changing the industry. Understanding the role of IP in these changes is a special talent, and Brett’s passion for the car and its driver fuels this focus of his practice. He has traveled often to Germany and lectured in Stuttgart and Munich on U.S. IP law and its role in the automotive industry. Since joining RP in 2004, his practice has spanned the various stages of the IP life-cycle, from the acquisition of IP rights to the enforcement of those rights.
