Brett shares in my value of learning a little bit about a lot and then applying that broad range of knowledge to varied situations and then dig in deeper where needed. In this world of niche skills, us Jack of all trade types are often overlooked but usually highly effective and Brett to me is a fellow Jack of all trades I.T. person that I worked with.

Working with Brett as a downstream consumer of his product deliverables, I can say that he always delivered quality and value. His attention to detail is excellent, combined with his continual process improvement, and one knows quality will be the product he delivers. Brett demonstrates a 'go getter' attitude in learning and adopting new technologies. In a time when most companies invest little in improving employee skills, Brett is continually learning new technologies that enhance product distribution and implementations. When looking for an employee that requires critical thinking, Brett is an excellent candidate; with his pragmatic approach to features and technologies, you get sound advice and perspectives on how to utilize technology stacks to their best potential.

Nov 2020 - Present
My primary role has been to give people what they need to accomplish their jobs better. That has consisted of numerous kinds of automation and data visualizations.I have automated various workflows using a variety of tools depending on the situation including but not limited to PowerShell, AutoIT, and Blue Prism. The estimated efficiency improvements from the automation have reached 250k thus far for my first year.In addition to automation, many co-workers just need data delivered to them faster and more accurately than the current legacy system can deliver. I have conducted ETL flows from source to a cleansed repository and built visualizations of that data in both Tableau and also Power BI. The ETL is written mostly in Python using pandas data frames and also using SQL depending on the need. I have then solicited customer feedback and iterated on their visualization and data needs and wants.

Jan 2018 - Nov 2020
My primary function has been to architect and implement a data environment to facilitate self serve data analysis for the IBM Security Learning Services Academy. This was accomplished by creating a centralized data store using the PostgreSQL RDBMS and then making numerous ETL routines from varied data sources primarily utilizing SQL and R, but also Apache NiFi in a few instances.Once the data infrastructure was in place, my responsibility has been to drive analysis of the data. I created visualizations and reports with several tools including PowerBI, Metabase, Tableau, and R (Markdown and Flexdashboard). I also mentored others on how to create their own visualizations and reports. The end result of creating a new data infrastructure and driving better analysis has been a reduction in our legacy data reporting time from two weeks to two hours. This has also allowed me to spearhead the integration of our data into the corporate data lake.

Solution Architect
-
Jan 2016 - Jan 2018
I was responsible for designing custom IT solutions and scoping work effort. I gained a deep understanding of customer requirements and problems, and matched those requirements to software and services solving the problems. To do this, deep domain and technical knowledge of the underlying products and customer industries were necessary. I am a Subject Matter Expert on the Integrated Law Enforcement, Enterprise Insight Analysis, and COPLINK product lines. I scoped the work effort for numerous services engagements for all three product lines.I implemented and maintained an Azure Private Cloud solution for our department that realized 400k in Cloud operations savings per year.I created tools to help consultants or customers work with their IBM products. To do this, I identified gaps in current solutions and also cultivated feedback from our customers and consultants.

Sr. Consultant
-
Apr 2007 - Jan 2016
I was responsible for Lab Services engagements involving the deployment of various software, customizing the software specific to customer requirements and also conducting various data integration projects per customer requirements.I conducted ETL for over 50 different systems for COPLINK integration. The ETL involved reverse engineering the system (usually an MSSQL, Oracle, or DB2 RDBMS) by analyzing the system using SQL queries and also using both COTS (SSIS), open Source (Node-RED), and proprietary (Java and Hibernate) ETL tools to migrate this data into the COPLINK Data Warehouse.I designed and conducted ETL for numerous different systems into the Enterprise Insight Analysis (EIA) platform. This ETL involved a deep analysis of the source data system (spreadsheet, RDBMS, Hadoop, REST service, etc.) and an understanding of the customer use cases to pull pertinent data from the source via both COTS (DataStage, MapForce), proprietary (Visual Studio and XSLT), and open source (Apache Pig, Apache NiFi) ETL tools and push it to EIA.Created an XML Schema that third parties could produce to for ingestion of data into COPLINK. With that I also created the documentation and learning materials needed to produce data to COPLINK standards.Created a new work flow process and system for internal tracking of projects. This system involved very detailed tasks and dependencies between the tasks that was rendered into a visual representation and also generated into a Microsoft Project file.Named to i2 Technical Excellence Exchange and in that role helped to educate, mentor, and lead other technical resources on the i2 product line (Analyst's Notebook and EIA).Developed historical analytic service concept to create new revenue stream.Developed third party specific COPLINK data warehouse concept to create new revenue stream.

Responsible for converting Military Communication Standard 6016C into XML messages for automated test case generation.Created hundreds of XML messages from the standard for the text case generation. This involved a detailed reading and understanding of the standard, written in prose, to then turn this into a boolean XML message.Upgraded over 250 workstations from Windows 2000 to Windows XP in one week to meet mandated deadlines. This had to be done with minimal disruption to work activities and with all data migrated over.
