Brett Hein is a talented young journalist whose knowledge and enthusiasm shows through in everything he writes. His background gives him great insight when it comes to the sports scene in Northern Utah, and he has displayed a wonderfully creative flair when it comes to his sports reporting in the pages of the Standard-Examiner. He would be a tremendous asset to any publication.

I've edited Brett multiple times here at SB Nation, and respect him enough that I jumped through multiple corporate hoops so I could hire him again. Brett has a great nose for news, he's through, he has a great social-media voice, and he's exceptionally coachable. He's one of the best independent voices on BYU athletics on the internet, and I enthusiastically endorse his work with us. I'm sure he'd be a solid addition to any other newsroom or social media team.

I lead digital and reporting strategy for sports news, manage online publishing schedules and lead print strategy and organization while simultaneously leading the state in coverage of Weber State University athletics as a full-time beat. I lead implementation of best SEO and other online practices into web and social media strategies, copy edit stories and manage social media accounts while identifying, writing and reporting relevant sports stories important to the Northern Utah community.

    • Digital Producer

In a multifaceted role at the central hub of the newsroom, I wrote breaking news stories for online audience and merge information provided by staff reporters in real time, edited articles for web and print using Associated Press style, managed the web and social media publishing schedule, and social media strategies. I also helped lead sports coverage and managed sports social accounts, and wrote about a variety of subjects such as food/restaurants, religion, police and fire, and sports.

    • Sports Correspondent
      • May 2014 - Sep 2015

As a correspondent, I was hired as a seasonal-but-full-time stringer for the summers of 2014 and 2015 as the beat writer for the Ogden Raptors minor league baseball club, filing daily game stories and writing player/coach features. I also wrote high school football game and feature stories in the fall of 2014 and 2015, including community-focused coverage of one high-interest high school's historic football season.

I advised students and graduates in Information Technology programs in resume/cover letter best practices and otherwise conducting effective and organized career searches. I tracked employment rates and obtained verification documents for the school's accreditation compliance reporting. I also networked with businesses and hiring managers to organize program advisory committees to gain industry feedback on university degree programs. I provided technical support for a pair of software programs used by national companies. I overhauled an outdated 83-page software manual with my own writing and design. I also provided customer service for an electricity utility and other retail companies. I provided technical support for a pair of software programs used by national companies. In a summer internship, I wrote content for email marketing campaigns and radio advertisements, the latter of which aired on several stations in the area. I helped edit the program for the council's annual summer concert series, and launched a spirited curation of the Facebook page as its administrator — a new venture for the organization — adding ~400 follows in less than 4 months.
