As an exercise planner and logistics trainer for the 189th Combined Arms Training Brigade, I coordinated the support of collective training events for our US Army Reserve and National Guard partners. I was selected as lead planner for support of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s annual training, located at sites across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. I led the efforts of a multi-disciplinary, multi-echelon staff to develop a training support package for over 3,000 soldiers that met budget and staffing constraints. I regularly briefed the brigade commander and other leaders on exercise preparation, providing them with the synthesis of complex information necessary for sound decision-making. Lastly, as one of the brigade’s senior logisticians, I was responsible for teaching, coaching and mentoring my Reserve Component colleagues during select training events on the planning and execution of efficient, effective logistics and sustainment operations. Serving as the battalion's primary operations officer and leading a staff of seven, I was the commander's principal advisor in the areas of planning and training. Through careful preparation, execution, and assessment of unit operations, I enabled the commander to accurately visualize the operating environment and to make informed judgments. Responsible for the collection, analysis and transformation of information into knowledge, I was able to develop viable and timely courses of action in accordance with the commander's intent. In order to further common understanding, we prepared and published battalion orders and standard operating procedures, in coordination with higher headquarters. During the culminating event of my tenure as operations officer, my team planned and executed a month-long field exercise in support of the 17th Field Artillery Brigade. Included in this effort was a 1000-mile round-trip, 40-vehicle tactical convoy spanning Washington, Oregon and Idaho. During this time, we increased the battalion’s capacity to sustain a complex brigade field exercise by seamlessly integrating three units external to the organization into the overall logistical support structure, allowing 100 new leaders and soldiers to provide augmented medical, transportation and maintenance support. As commander of the Eugene recruiting company, I led a team of 28 non-commissioned officers to identify service opportunities for future soldiers across 30,000 square miles of central and western Oregon. I prepared the ground for successful operations, focusing recruiting efforts in accordance with careful analysis of rapidly changing metrics and conditions. I developed and implemented systems to efficiently manage company personnel resources and marketing budgets, resulting in key metrics improvements during both years of my command. For example, we achieved 225% and 93%, respectively, of our FY 16 Army Reserve and Regular Army recruiting goals. We mentored and consulted with subordinate units in two major commands and six brigades, comprising approximately 80,000 soldiers, and achieved 97% available equipment rating for air, ground, and waterborne equipment across the Army Pacific Theater. I provided the brigade commander with the current maintenance status of critical fleet equipment, and nurtured relationships with external support agencies and senior leaders that facilitated expeditious repairs. In order to improve the skills of junior officers and non-commissioned officers, we also developed maintenance management courses that improved the team's ability to operate in accordance with Army regulations and standard operating procedures. As commander of the logistics support company for a high-tempo construction and combat engineering battalion, I led a 100-soldier team providing supply, transportation and maintenance support to 13 customer units. While in command, I exceeded 95% compliance with mandatory training metrics and increased the number of personnel available to deploy by 35%. Deployed to Naval Base Guam, we assumed the role of a Navy Construction Battalion (Seabee) logistical support company, a mission never before undertaken by an Army unit. I served as the deputy logistics officer for the 130th Engineer Brigade, responsible for supporting two combat engineer battalions, composed of over 1,800 soldiers, operating across the Pacific theater. As such, I assisted the senior brigade logistician in providing leadership and guidance to twelve personnel of different specialties as we worked to sustain engineer operations. I played an integral role in the planning and oversight of maintenance, supply, budget and transportation efforts, and maximized efficient use of limited resources. For example, I utilized data-analysis, standard operating procedures, and higher headquarter prioritization to anticipate supply requirements for an 1,800-soldier unit, ensuring that 100% of personnel deploying in support of overseas operations received the most up-to-date equipment. As platoon leader and accountable officer, I led warehouse operations for the Third Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Tenth Mountain Division, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), followed by garrison warehouse operations at Fort Drum, NY. While deployed to Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, I led over 40 soldiers, noncommissioned officers and contracted civilians who managed the requisition, receipt, storage and issue of 5,758 separate pieces of stock, with value in excess of $38,000,000. Within one month of taking over, I had implemented best practices that improved inventory accuracy from 70% to 99%, even as the warehouse grew to be the third largest in Afghanistan. Simultaneously, I improved relationships with the local national workforce while enforcing contracting policy requirements, and was thus able to save the government over $50,000 in labor costs. I led the general supply section in the support operations office of the Third Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Tenth Mountain Division. I was responsible for overseeing sustainment operations during Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) through direct support to the brigade's combat battalions and back-up support to subordinate logistics support units. I provided management and accountability for sustainment operations of all classes of supply, with an emphasis on water, fuel and repair part distribution. I developed numerous standard operating procedures and tracking mechanisms for supply operations in theater and thus enabled the timely movement of over $40,000,000 of supplies from Bagram Airfield to Forward Operating Bases.
