Due to corporate restructuring of positions I had the pleasure of managing Brendon when he swapped from a Test Automation QA to an Application Developer. While Brendon did know some code principals being a Test Automation QA; the structure, style, standards, and competency needed were very different between the two positions. Brendon learned extremely fast and out of all the individuals whose positions changed like his, he was the one that picked up the skills required for the position the fastest. Very little direct management or mentorship was necessary as he took it upon himself to entrench his focus in getting up to speed with where we needed him to be. Overall he was an excellent direct report. His position as a developer was short lived because Brendon, being the team player he is, quickly took an opportunity to become a Product Manager which is what our department really needed at the time. Demonstrating his abilities, he received many kudos and increased responsibilities by the time I left ConnectWise where we were working together. We reconvened our working relationship when he was hired at Zorus as our QA Lead. The company being a start-up had never had a true QA before. Unfortunately, due to the economy and limitations on the budget of our budding company he was let go only due to financial needs of the organization at large. However, while we did work together at Zorus he played a key role in capturing missed Acceptance Criteria (AC) from developers, stopping odd or wrong behavior from coded, questioning the direction of features to drive a more user-centric/logical design, and training a junior QA on our fairly complex product. Regardless of what role Brendon goes to next I am sure that he will be extremely valuable to any organization that is smart enough to hire him.

I worked with Brendon at both CW and Zorus, and he was a fantastic colleague both times. Brendon has an eye for detail when it comes to writing and executing tests, and he can be trusted to own the job while holding everyone else to a high standard and keeping them accountable. As for personality, he's a delight to work with because he takes his work seriously while still being fun to know personally.

Taking on this role, I was responsible for the quality assurance process of Zorus as a whole. Prior to my employment, QA was taken as an afterthought by the company. During my time there, I standardized the QA process, educated and enforced quality standards among the production team, and was responsible for all manual and automated testing. Automation was getting off the ground and getting put in place for new content going forward. I was also involved in managing a second QA analyst for a short time. Show less

When I moved to this position, the scope of my responsibilities increased many times over. I am in charge of an entire product for ConnectWise (specifically the Identity and Access Management product). Responsibilities include:1) Product Management of multiple active projects - Our product has several projects running at once, and my primary responsibility is ensuring those projects are on track and the right move to make for our product. This entails supervising product owners in charge of the day-to-day work, checking in with stakeholders for each project as well as leadership, and reviewing results of sprints to ensure quality and alignment with our overall vision.2) Roadmap and Vision - Being a product manager means looking more long-term, crafting a healthy roadmap and ensuring there is a clear and understandable vision that I can communicate to leadership, customers, and stakeholders.3) Customer communication - I regularly communicate with customers regarding our product, field their concerns, and assist them with their issues. Their feedback is invaluable to ensuring a higher quality product and outcome.4) Management - I currently manage a Product Owner, ensuring they have what they need to succeed and making sure they are achieving their own personal career goals. Entry level position in ConnectWise's product mangement hierarchy. I was responsible for a single Scrum team, ensuring completion of sprints and owning all aspects of the work completed by my team. I learned to both ensure there was a clear vision for our project, as well as trust my team members when they gave their opinions about our product as well as technical challenges they identified. My time was largely spent grooming our backlog, ensuring smooth operation of our team, communicating with stakeholders, both internal and external, and demoing/educating those same stakeholders on the new content we were delivering. My primary responsibilities are as follows:1) Production Code - Writing changes and bug fixes that are checked into the production code of Connectwise Automate and ultimately the product will be improved. Languages used for this work include: C#, SQL, Visual Basic, Javascript (REACT), CSS, and HTML.2) Automated Testing - With most pieces of production code created, automated testing is created to continually test that code and those features to ensure the success of that product. I use the following technologies to create and run automated testing: Selenium, C#, Ranorex.3) Agile/Sprint Responsibilities - As part of a Scrum team, it is equally my responsibility to ensure the sprint is completed fully and on time. To that end, I am continuously honing and improving my estimation skill (being able to correctly assess the amount of effort required for each initiative), I assist colleagues with tasks related to their initiatives (documentation, testing), and I monitor and provide status updates regularly to ensure that the sprint is on track to be completed.4) Code Reviews - A large responsibility at our company is peer reviewing code changes submitted to be checked into production. All code must be reviewed to find potential errors or opportunities for improvement. Show less
