Brenda Sheridan, Ed .D.

Breanne was a great intern and it was my pleasure to work with her. She has a very positive impact on our communication team. She never said "no" to any job, big or small. She took on a work load of a regular full-time team member, even though her hours were limited to 20 a week. At our team meetings, she brought forth new ideas and was a moving force in implementing our new social media channel, Snap Chat for the school. Just recently, other Rutgers communicators have reached out to Breanne to inquire how Snap Chat is received by our audiences. Breanne was also instrumental in developing our video series that feature current seniors as they prepare for graduation. Breanne shot and edited the series and it has been well received by faculty, staff and students alike. During her internship, Breanne wrote the majority of our social media on LK, FB and Twitter and Instagram. Her content was fresh, new and exciting and often was engaging with our audience. Also during Breanne's time at SC&I, we have seen an increase in social media following and I contribute that to her and our team. I recommend Breanne highly for any communication position.

    • Pool Supervisor
      • Jun 2015 - Aug 2017

In my third summer at White Beeches, I was promoted to pool manager. I was responsible for keeping track of and managing a total of 24 pool employees. In addition to waitressing, I had to ensure that our events ran smoothly. I tried to help with floor plans as much as possible, even if it was just printing or cutting placeholders for each table. Additionally, I trained new employees in how to use the Point of Sale System, how to greet members, how to take orders, and many other things. I continued to ensure guest satisfaction to the best of my ability and tried to encourage my staff to do the same. If there were any problems or complaints from the guests or members of my own staff, I came up with appropriate solutions. I also took inventory at the end of each week and month, as our head chef needed. Again, I bartended when I was needed, typically on days when our bartender was not scheduled. Additionally, I occasionally answered phones and made calls to and from members. Show less

    • Wait Service
      • May 2013 - Aug 2017

Throughout my time at White Beeches, I have tried to go above and beyond to ensure that our guests were satisfied through the use of clear communication and conflict resolution. In addition to waitressing, I occasionally bartended on weekdays (Monday through Wednesday) when our regular bartender is not in. I always make sure to have a smile on my face, whether I am having a good day or not. I feel that in this industry, one always needs to be ready and willing to talk to the members. As time went on, I was given a few more managerial responsibilities, including inventory and training new employees. We all work together as a team in order to get through another day successfully. I am always more than happy to help my superiors, my peers, and my subordinates. Through this work, I have learned to be versatile; I have worked both the pool and the dining room setting. Though the principle is the same (top quality service with a smile), the environment is slightly different and it has helped me in learning to adapt to new situations. Additionally, I occasionally answered phones and made calls to and from members. Show less

Assistant to two executive editors. I created and sent out research packets to writers related to the topic they are writing about. I helped find Random Notes images when needed. Additionally, I managed our database of entertainment events and album releases. I also did financial work, including expense reports and check requests and distribution. I also worked with our travel agent to book writer's trips for stories. I worked very closely with our freelance transcribers. I also kept calendars of tasks and deadlines. Finally, I trained new interns. Show less

As an intern for Rolling Stone, I often transcribed prerecorded interviews between one of our writers and the subject or subjects of interest. Additionally, as a team, we often created in-depth research packets on subjects of interest for writers. I helped find interesting things to place in the Random Notes section of the magazine. I updated the rock schedule with upcoming events and releases throughout the next year and beyond.

As a markting intern, I worked very closely with both the Public Relations and Graphic Design interns. I was responsible for creating relevent social media content on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, and more. Most of the social media was meant to engage students and make them aware of upcoming events, holidays, or programs within the School of Communication and Information. In addition to social media, the other interns and I planned and implemented a booth for Rutgers Day, the biggest event Rutgers holds each year. We developed activities and put together prizes to be given out the day of. The three of us also created and tested out a Snapchat account in order to increase our social media presence. Two ongoing campaigns throughout the semester were "Where in the World are the SC&I Faculty and Staff" and "Dear Freshman Me." In the 'Where' campaign, we talked to different members of SC&I each week about where they went during the semester. With each trip, we wrote short blurbs to be featured on our website along with a photo the faculty member provided. Finally, the YouTube campaign "Dear Freshman Me" was a video series in which we interviewed upperclassmen about their experiences at Rutgers and asked them to provide tips to incoming freshman and other undergraduates. I conducted the interviews along with one of the other interns and I edited the videos into a series. Show less

    • Research Assistant
      • Jan 2016 - Apr 2016

Throughout the semester, I did research with one of our PhD students and another Research Assistant. I was responsible for finding patterns in answers provided by participants and then coding those answers based on the codebook we developed. Additionally, I researched an abundant amount of articles that related to his next upcoming research project.

I tutored student-athletes in various Human Resources, Communication, and Sociology courses, including Social Research, Communication Research, Staffing, Intro to Media System Processes, Communication Theory, Mediated Communication, and Race Relations. I regularly interacted with the students I tutored and I always told them I was only a text away if they needed help. I was always more than willing to pick up extra hours for students who needed the help. I peer reviewed papers as needed and I often helped them study and/or create study guides for their exams. I was an additional support mechanism for these students. Show less

    • Digital Marketing Intern

During my time at Kidz Bop, most of the marketing was geared toward the newly released "Kidz Bop 29." I spent a great deal of time finding websites and Youtube channels for us to advertise the newest CD on. Aditionally, I became pretty familiar with Excel. I created Excel sheets to keep up with our merchandise sales, inventory, where we advertised, and many other data sets. On those sheets, I often had to use a variety of formulas to keep track of all of the information. I often updated the website with new products, new radio lineups for SiriusXM, and photo captions. I even did some search engine optimization for the Kidz Bop website by adding key words and phrases for Google to pick up on in searches. One of my projects was to research children's products, find what's cool that Kidz Bop could design and sell, and pitch my ideas to my bosses. Show less

After I took Emplpyment Law, I was asked to be a teaching assistant for the class. As a teaching assistant, I had to keep track of student attendance--I had to know if absences were excused, keep track of doctor's notes, and know athletic schedules. I learned unbelievable organization skills through this internship. When students emailed me, I had to be sure to answer them in a timely manner. I tried to make sure everyone knew what was going in class; I even met with one student upon her request to review for the midterm exam. Finally, I had to develop some content ideas for both the midterm and final exams. Ultimately, I was the one to grade those exams (other than the essays that the professor graded). Show less

At Brainfreeze, I had regular interaction with customers. I always made sure to smile and be polite, ensuring that the customer got a pleasant experience with every visit. Eventually, some customers became regulars, so I would remember their orders, which typically brought a smile to their faces. I was often responsible for both opening and closing duties, including keeping the store clean and making sure everything was locked up and put away. Because we were an all cash business at first, I handled money on a daily basis. Show less

    • Counselor
      • Sep 2011 - Mar 2012

Mondays through Fridays, I watched children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade after school. We all made sure the children were engaged in enriching activities, rain or shine. Additionally, all counselors helped the children with their homework as needed. Most importantly, we ensured children's safety, making sure that no one was hurt during their time at latchkey. If anyone did get hurt, we made sure they were cared for immediately. Mondays through Fridays, I watched children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade after school. At age 17, I commuted into the city five days a week. At my internship, I helped maintain the digital content on the company website (www.alblawfirm.com), ensuring that everything on the site worked properly. I consolidated and organized court cases and testimonies, both alphabetically and by type of case. On a few occassions, I interacted with clients. Additionally, I ensured the timely delivery of important legal notices. My responsibilities were mainly related to the ongoing daily activities of the office. I attended court twice; one of the times I had the pleasure of watching Adam argue in favor of the ground zero mosque. (Later I got to see said mosque) Show less
