At ODU, along with a few other locations, there is a program called VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Association) where us accounting students prepare individual income tax returns for families in the Columbus area. Before I am able to prepare these returns, I have to pass 5 tests with an 80% or higher to be a certified volunteer tax preparer. I I worked with the software TaxSlayer to prepare the returns and for each return I did, I was required to have a supervisor check to make sure everything was inputted accurately before being sent to the IRS.
