I am a Research Scientist within the Bureau of Environmental Evaluation and Risk Assessment primarily focusing on reviewing and providing technical assistance for ecological evaluations and ecological risk assessments. I also serve as the technical coordinator on several contaminated sites handling all non-groundwater technical aspects which include investigation and remediation of soil, surface water, ecological risk, vapor intrusion, etc. I am a Research Scientist within the Bureau of Environmental Evaluation and Risk Assessment primarily focusing on reviewing and providing technical assistance for ecological evaluations and ecological risk assessments. I was a staff scientist primarily working within Langan's ecological risk assessment and sediment remediation practice. I have performed field sediment and soil sampling, field oversight of subcontractors, statistical analysis, and screening table creation to support this practice. I have additionally assisted with human health risk assessments, groundwater monitoring, soil core sampling and characterization, indoor air sampling, sub-slab soil gas sampling, Phase I historical site research, Phase II site investigations, and data validation work to support Langan's other environmental practices. My work focused on carbon dynamics in a salt marsh creek. The first part of my project focused on a year of 1-minute resolution automated measurements of carbon dioxide and methane concentrations in the creek. These are paired with water quality and meteorological data and manual flux measurements to build a flux model and examine the drivers of greenhouse gas flux. The second part of my project focused on the export, quality, and source of carbon in the creek paired with greenhouse gas fluxes. Complex multivariate statistical analysis performed in R on a large amount of data is a key component of both parts of the thesis. In addition to my thesis work, I have regularly attended training workshops on stream restoration, hydrologic modelling, and living shorelines along with shadowing a stream restoration design team. I performed work that enabled me to be the first author on the paper Dynamic Effects of Biochar Concentration and Particle Size on Hydraulic Properties of Sand. I prepared the samples for analysis and performed the majority of the analysis on UMS HYPROP, WP4C, and KSAT devices. Statistical analysis of the data was performed in the R programming language. In addition, I assisted a graduate student with in his fieldwork and sample analysis on using rare earth elements to track sediment loss due to fire in a shrub-grassland ecotone in New Mexico. I performed a wide variety of market research including used cars in the republic of Georgia, promoting Japanese wine in America and gym membership in the Tokyo area. I helped draft a plan to provide consulting services for local Japanese governments. My most useful contribution was creating an automated calendar through Google to help the company keep track of loan payments for used car customers. My primary responsibility was to teach children who came to the Peace Valley Nature Center about the environment and our natural world out on the trails of the center. I performed a variety of other duties as well such as bird feeding, cleaning, trail maintenance, weeding, event promotion, and working the gift shop's cash register. I created, promoted and organized my own event as my intern project- a family campfire music night where I and two of my associates played songs focused on nature and the environment. In addition, I contributed an article on restoration ecology to the center's monthly newspaper. Show less
