In my nine years of teaching experience, Branislav stands out as one of the most qualified, talented, and respected educators with whom I have worked. I met Branislav in 2004 when I began teaching in the Digital Film Department at The Katharine Gibbs School. At the time, he was an adjunct instructor like me, though he had a much heavier course load and more responsibilities than I did. I quickly learned that he was greatly respected by both fellow faculty and students alike, and thus was not at all surprised when he was later named as the Chair of our department. Branislav had large shoes to fill as the new Chair, and took the helm of the department at a difficult time in the school’s history. Nevertheless, he adapted effortlessly and brought great integrity and enthusiasm to the position, as well as immeasurable knowledge and expertise. He was able to carefully balance student needs with the requirements of the school administration, and was always receptive to faculty concerns when they arose. Indeed, diplomacy is one of Branislav’s greatest assets, and he has a remarkable ability to lead effectively with a quiet voice and a steady hand. In these stressful times, we all tend to kick and scream to get what we need; Branislav manages to put us all to shame with his even temper and generous spirit, leading him to be a coveted and respected ally to everyone he works with. Branislav’s knowledge of filmmaking is second-to-none, and he remains current on each and every technical advancement and industry trend. He is also an excellent teacher in and out of the classroom, as I have witnessed firsthand. Before he became the Chair of the Department at Katharine Gibbs, he and I were team-teachers for a quarter-long thesis pre-production class. Branislav was not only a joy to teach with, but he was able to elucidate even the most complex concepts (narrative structure, special effects, editing theory, etc) in a way students could comprehend. He was always a popular teacher with the students, many of who often visited his office to seek clarification on things other teachers hadn’t explained sufficiently. I truly hope you will have the opportunity to discover all of Branislav’s impressive talents for yourself. Justin Marshall

Prof. Bala was a pleasure to work with and an incredible resource for Katharine Gibbs. He was completely dedicated to providing the students with the best education possible. The students fully realized that Prof. Bala truly cared about them and their futures. In addition to his work with student advising and in the classroom, he was extremely resourceful. Prof. Bala negotiated excellent deals on the equipment necessary for the success of the Digital Film dept. and he also initiated trade-ins so we could keep our equipment current. Prof. Bala was instrumental in helping to keep the curriculum current with industry standards and making sure the instructors followed the prescribed curriculum. With open admissions, students' abilities varied greatly so a curriculum which could accommodate learning speed was imperative. Bala helped to develop procedures to measure departmental success and learning outcomes assessment. I can without any hesitation recommend Prof. Bala as an outstanding educator with a strong commitment to students, fellow faculty members and the administration.
