I was given the task of fixing the Beam Relay System (BRS) vacuum leak. I was told that it was leaking through the current rubber sleeves and was to work on my own to discover the problem, and find a solution. I used Solidworks to create a model testing apparatus for the rubber pipe sleeves and create part drawings in order to create the testing apparatus. Once the apparatus was complete I tested the current sleeves being used on the BRS and researched and ordered new ones to be tested and implemented on the BRS.I also was tasked with creating a weatherproof and moisture-proof cover for the Unit Telescope Pier (UTP) that will interface with the Unit Telescope Enclosures (UTE) current connection points on the pier. It has to withstand variable weather conditions at its location of ~10600ft above sea level and easily be moved. Models were created in Solidworks with all components and FEA was performed for various conditions such as lifting/moving, snow, and people walking on it. Airflow was taken into account within the UTP cover in order to avoid condensation and moisture buildup that would rust the components being covered with the sharp temperature fluctuations at that altitude.Other various work: Rapid part modelling and drawing for quick machining of partsAligning lasers for optical experimentsVarious small engineering fixes for various problems
