Brandon is certainly capable of putting together exciting, entertaining, and lively events, with skills in administrative management, woodworking, construction, sound design, lighting, 3D modeling, and more. I have worked under him to put together many events at MKS, and not once has he ever disappointed in fulfilling his role with both excellence and creativity, designing events that have not only been well received by attendees, but also cherished, leaving them with a desire to experience more of his work. If there is ever a thing I have feared for regarding MKS, it is what would happen to life at MKS without Brandon working behind the scenes to make it so amazing to be a student here.

Students are significantly more likely to be engaged in their classes and achieve academic success if they have strong relationships with teachers and peers. Co and extra curricular activities provide a framework for intentional relationship building and set a foundation for a strong culture and healthy climate in the school. By bridging the gap between content and the world, students see a context for their learning and realize the value of their study. As a teacher, I invested in extracurricular programs as a pathway toward improved student investment in my own classes. By organizing book fairs, academic exhibitions, theatre performances, clubs, and international trips, students were given the opportunity to invest in their communities, learn new skills, make new friends, and be part of something bigger than themselves. Seeing the immediate and tangible benefits of these programs propelled me to move out of the classroom and build systems to support student programming and school innovation on a full-time basis. I am so proud to say that by working extensively with school leadership, teachers, external providers, and (most importantly!) students, we have absolutely transformed the culture of the school to one where creativity, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation can thrive. Becoming the Student Activities Coordinator at MKS was the most unexpected and delightful privilege of my life, and I could not be happier knowing the lifelong positive impact we have made on the lives of countless students. When I started at MKS, it was without even the most basic educational technology. At most, a few classrooms had portable projectors for teachers to use with their personal computers. Looking back, it's hard to believe we have come so far! Seeing the need for improved technology in the school, I volunteered to help rollout Google Apps for Education. Since then, our school has gone 1:1 with Chromebooks in grades 6 thru 12, installed new wireless internet infrastructure, and transformed teaching and learning through comprehensive school-wide professional development. It has been an absolute thrill to be part of these transformations. Watch the linked video for a small peak into our success. Show less

I started my career in the Middle East as a English/Language Arts teacher at the high school level. I taught a range of engaging courses, including English for grades 9, 10, and 11, and Honors English for grades 10 and 11. I served as chair of the MKS Writing Action Team and assisted in the development of improved curricular offerings in the department, and I absolutely loved providing relevant, interactive learning opportunities for my students, especially outside of the classroom with student activities and trips. As my workload outside of the classroom increased while I developed technology resources and extracurricular programming, my teaching responsibilities were gradually reduced. I eventually moved to a full time administrative role in 2019. Show less

The summers I spent in the beautiful hills and valleys of Sugar Creek were some of the most exhausting and rewarding of my young adult life. I started my SCBC experience working as a grounds keeper before becoming a camp counselor and eventually a program leader and Staff In Training Coordinator. Whether I was trimming trees, planning staff training programs, or having a chat with a homesick camper, there was always something to be done. The fast-paced, team-focused environment at camp provided me with valuable lessons in servant-leadership and youth development. I still enjoy volunteering at Sugar Creek from time to time. Show less

As a Scene Shop Supervisor in the Toland and Frederick Theatres at UW–La Crosse, I worked with students of varying skill levels to develop technical aspects of theatrical productions such as scenic construction, special effects, and fly-space rigging. Participant safety, clear communication, and working calmly under pressure were essential in this fast-paced and exciting theatrical environment.
