As a tutor with Sprout and S.T.E.M I work at the local middle school, Nathanial Greene, to provide students with extra help in math and science topics. With many notable disparities in Providence's public school system, the goal of this is to help these students not only in their current classes but to also encourage them to think about continued education and future career paths. As a volunteer I work in the transport department where I am able to see and interact with a multitude of areas within the hospital. I help to transport patients, deliver lab and blood samples, and any other requests of members throughout the hospital. In the spring of my senior year I shadowed Dr. Eberson, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at University Orthopedics. Here I learned many of the aspects associated with working in a hospital and different treatments especially regarding that of scoliosis and other spinal disorders as that was Dr. Ebersons clinical interest.
