Kitchen Porter

Jan 2008 - Mar 2012
Hope Street Hotel was Built around 1860 in the style of a Venetian palazzo and renovated in 2003 into 89 simple, natural, contemporary and comfortable hotel rooms and a restaurant. Privately owned and independently run with an emphasis on friendliness, good food and thoughtful service. With a great restaurant, our fantastic tailor-made cocktails, 24 hour room service and extensive DVD and CD libraries there is not much call to stray further afield than the hotel. If it is a special occasion, let us know and we'll do all we can to set the mood and make it a wonderful night in.The London Carriage Works: modern international food, complemented by the use of local, organic and fresh seasonal produce. The London Carriage Works opened in December 2003, quickly establishing itself as one of Liverpool's leading restaurants, enjoying rave reviews and critical acclaim. It was voted one of the top ten restaurants outside London in the 2005 Hardens Guide and also voted Restaurant of Overall Excellence at Liverpool Food and Drink Festival Awards 2010. It has been awarded AA 2 Rosettes 2010, 2011 and 2012 and won The Mersey Partnership Annual Taste Award for 2011.The London Carriage Works acquired its name when during construction works the original sign above the restaurant doors became apparent in the stonework. I joined the team at Hope Street and London Carriage Works not long after I began my degree and enjoyed the atmosphere of a high pressure environment which encouraged team work and a great atmosphere. My role as a kitchen porter was to ensure that all the basic cleaning jobs were carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible, to ensure a safe and swift running of the kitchen. Main duties: collecting/washing up of pots and pans, cleaning food preparation areas and equipment and collecting and cleaning crockery and cutlery. In terms of the bigger picture, there are two important elements of the role of a kitchen porter; efficiency and sanitation.
