• Led the database portion of an initiative (utilizing the Agile/Scrum development methodology) at MedAssets to replace SQL Server full-text search functionality in an existing data processing application with the Tibco Patterns matching engine. The existing product consisted of a vast number of hierarchical stored procedures that processed incoming Charge Master data; the procedures performing full-text search matching were replaced with a new database, SSIS packages, and Tibco Patterns. Duties included business process reviews, technical reviews (i.e. digging into and understanding the existing code base), database and data flow design, ETL design and construction, test case reviews, product release coordination, and mentoring of new team members on the product and technology. The new product release increased both data processing throughput design as well as the text-matching accuracy and also created a new “bread crumb trail” for end users to follow any data element from the beginning of the process through the end to understand why the matches that were given were found. As a team of one at MedAssets, designed a database to replace the existing customer clinical coding application database and support the next release of the Clinical Coding Management (CCM) product. Duties included requirements gathering, technical design and review with the architecture team, thorough documentation to facilitate implementation of the new database by the DBA team, and impact analysis on the four other applications that currently use the existing database. The database is used primarily by the CCM application, but various other applications source data from it, so a plan was created to move the other applications to source from the newly released internal ODS and have the new CCM application load the ODS as needed. • Lead transition of ETL used to support the retention department from SQL scripts on Teradata to an automated SSIS framework for large telecom company.

Analytics Software Engineer IV

Architect and lead developer for Workforce Analytics for Healthcare application. This application is an out-of-the-box data warehouse used by hospitals to measure their productivity and labor management in order to minimize costs caused by under-utilization of full-time labor or over-reliance on supplemental labor. Data is extracted from the Kronos Workforce Central system, any third-party billing application, and any third-party payroll application (as well as several other Excel-based data-input systems), loaded into the data warehouse, and reported on via SQL Server Reporting Services and Analysis Services. Duties spanned all aspects of the software development life cycle, including logical and physical design and development, star schema data modeling, working with the product manager and other high-level stakeholders to gather business requirements and ensure they are met by the product, creating business-use and test cases, augmenting and maintaining the overall QA strategy, troubleshooting highest-priority live customer issues, reviewing product installation documentation and service pack release notes, instructing field-level consultants in the technical aspects of the system, estimating each phase of development from the highest level down to week-to-week tasks, budgeting proper resources for development and testing, and day-to-day management of tasks within the Agile/Scrum development methodology. The product supports both SQL Server and Oracle and has separate code bases for each. All ETL is performed via SQL stored procedures. Developed stored procedures for both SQL Server and Oracle (using specific features in each to create the most efficient code), Reporting Services RDLs, and Analysis Services cubes.

• Utilized Hyperion Intelligence at Cox Communications to create executive dashboards reporting on Essbase cubes for the human resources department. Worked in rapid development environment, demoing progress and new features to stakeholders each week, then incorporating feedback on existing components while adding new functionality. • Lead team in designing and building a DB2 scorecard data mart for Spherion. Duties included gathering business requirements, creating the logical and technical architecture, designing a flexible data model that could support future scorecards with many and varying metrics, and creating an Informatica ETL process that would allow for easy “snap-in” of new processes to add new metrics and dimensions to the mart. The current scorecard was based around internal customer-centric metrics as well as external metrics for the customers themselves to view, including billing accuracy, on-time receipt of paychecks, turnover analysis, collections, and profit analysis. • Brought on team as ETL and data modeling resource to help develop a data mart to support a comprehensive daily sales report for Cingular. This report already existed but was a hodgepodge of SQL scripts and Business Objects macros that ran nightly for a very long time. Utilized the capabilities of the Teradata database to make queries more efficient while bringing in more dimensional data. • Joined team mid-project that was working to create an analytical data mart in SQL Server to produce Cognos cubes showing product line profitability for various products for Checkfree Corporation. The source data in SAP did not support this type of analytics, so a system was built to introduce this data into the mart and combine it with the cost and revenue data already being sourced. Took lead position and drove the project to finish, including developing a comprehensive auditing process and system test plan.

• Used Informatica and SQL to build ETL processes for Autotrader.com to load their Corporate Data Warehouse in Oracle from source systems as well as to load specialized data marts from the CDW. • Performed requirements gathering and led analysis/design/business requirements for enterprise-wide Service Level Management initiative for EarthLink. Interviewed stakeholders, created business/technical requirements, updated star schema, led reporting analysts in design of marts, reports, and dashboard, and built prototype of dashboard for presentation. • Built Teradata views, converted Essbase cubes to Cognos, built Cognos front end cubes and reports, and debugged UNIX/SQL (BTEQ) scripts to facilitate merger of the Union Planters data warehouse with the RegionsBank data warehouse. • Worked on analysis and design phases of startup data warehouse for Manhattan Associates, including leading executive/user interviews; creating business/functional requirements; producing the solution approach, architecture, and cost document; building prototype of the reporting system; modelling tables for data warehouse and data mart; designing stored procedures to load and audit the data warehouse and data mart; developing physical and process architecture; and performing source data analysis. • Worked on project for Kodak to cut data load time for the data warehouse from 48 to 24 hours. Performed data analysis and mapping, created dynamic SQL scripts for data loads and to perform reconciliation testing, and supported back-end SQL processes for loading Cognos cubes. Designed and led the process to receive five new data feeds from Qualex, a subsidiary of Kodak utilizing SQL Loader and SQL scripts. • Worked on development team of a Dual Risk Rating Model and Credit Risk Data Warehouse for Compass Bank using ASP, Excel, SQL Server, and multi-tiered Oracle views as ETL modules. • Led development team for a repeatable data warehouse solution to implement in mid-market consumer banks.

Worked on logical and physical design, construction, testing, implementation, and production support for many iterations of an advertising sales support system. System utilized the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and a PowerBuilder advertising pricing application. Assumed role of Technical Lead on project for final four months of active project work. Worked on CDW start-up team. CDW was Oracle 8.1.6 on Sun Solaris 2.7 platform, ETL tool was DataStage, and reporting tool was Business Objects 5.0. Participated in and led JAD sessions with users to design CDW. Helped with tool selection. Performed both logical and physical design of Oracle 8.1.6 database tables. Gathered business rules and source-to-target mappings from system users. Built data extraction and load jobs using DataStage, UNIX scripts, and SQL scripts. Designed and received user signoff on Business Objects 5.0 front-end reports to report information from CDW. Built, tested, and implemented the reports. Designed Essbase 5.0.2 multidimensional database for use as data mart feeding from CDW. Built DataStage ETL jobs to create flat text files to load Essbase cube from CDW. Utilized Essbase partitioning abilities to help meet user needs to “pace” data. Presented request to TWC CIO to buy Essbase partitioning option, showing business needs for capital expenditure. Constructed a bug/issue tracking application using PowerBuilder and an Oracle database. Application was used by team during design phases to track business process issues and QA testing phase to track system bugs and their resolutions. Worked on several modules of company intranet using HTML, ColdFusion, and JavaScript languages. • Wrote VisualBasic and DOS shell scripts to automate the creation of Cognos Powerplay cubes for The Equitable. Also created a demo application using Powerplay to show to insurance vendors in the PwC vendor booth at the LOMA Insurance Conference; attended the conference as a technical expert to answer questions of prospective clients about the project at The Equitable. • Created front-end reports for data warehouse of Warner Lambert using Cognos Impromptu. Was brought on to the project when two team members temporarily left in order to keep production at the current level; actually increased the productivity of the team. Also mentored other team members in the use of the Impromptu tool. • Designed, constructed and tested an interactive, dynamic front-end data warehouse reporting system using VisualBasic and Excel based on an Essbase database for Credit Suisse First Boston. Originally brought on to the project to help with VisualBasic work, but by the end of the project was team lead in charge of all construction and testing of the system. • Created front-end reports for data warehouse of Merrill Lynch IBK using Cognos Impromptu.
