I had the pleasure of meeting Brad more than four years ago as a fellow AmeriCorps Alum while working to plan community engagement projects in Palm Beach County. In the years since, I've learned that Brad's leadership, poise and ability to forge meaningful professional relationships goes unmatched in the Palm Beach County community. He is respected as a dynamic leader in each and every of his many community affiliations, including the likes of Leadership Palm Beach County and the United Way's Emerging Leaders Society (ELS). In my time serving with Brad on the ELS steering committee, his passion and conscientious approach toward bettering the community was infectious for us all. His near decade of experience leading AmeriCorps Literacy tutors and the complexities of the program, coupled with Brad's ability to engage community, makes him an exceptional member of any team.

As program manager, I recruit, train, and manage 40 AmeriCorps members maintaining collaborative partnerships with over 20 Palm Beach County non-profit organizations, elementary schools and high schools. Community impact and community relations are essential job functions and this program, with it's twenty year track record, continues to provide essential literacy and education skills to learners who need it the most. Each program year, the AmeriCorps members (or intensive tutors and mentors) directly tutor or mentor students and adults who lack the most basic literacy skills. They intensively tutor children below grade level reading in underperforming elementary schools. They teach adults crucial employability and English language skills at libraries and adult education centers. They mentor at-risk seniors preventing drop out and promoting high school graduation in high schools with low graduation rates. For the latest program year, all performance measures were exceeded: 88% of adult learners met target gains, 80% of children met target gains and 78% of high school seniors graduated with a standard diploma with 96% of underclassmen remained in school and were promoted to the next grade. Post college graduation, I dedicated 1 year (over 1700 hours) to full-time service to the underserved students in Palm Beach County, FL. As an AmeriCorps member, I served as an intensive reading tutor to children reading below grade level and as an ESOL teacher to local adults looking to gain crucial language and/or employability skills.
