Sedimentological study (core and log data), fractures analysis (borehole imagery), petrophysical analysis on core and modeling of the Lorrain Basin on PetroMod, Petrobuilder, WellCad and Gocad. Abstract : To meet the growing energy demand in Europe, more specifically in France, companies have embarked on the development of coal-bed methane (CBM) exploitation, which has revived the study of coalfields previously intensively exploited for coal. Several geophysical and drilling campaigns have been carried out by companies such as EGL for the exploitation of coalbed methane, but also with the aim of improving knowledge of its thermal evolution, sedimentary environments and basin tectonics, which are essential parameters controlling gas production and storage. The aim of this internship is first of all to carry out a sedimentological (paleo-environment, paleocurrent and well correlation), petrophysical and tectonic (study of fracturing) study of the Lorrain basin using cores from the Folschviller 1A well, Diebling STR1 borehole imagery and logs from other wells. The results obtained were used for a 1D modeling on PetroMod of the evolution of the thermicity and maturity of the organic matter in the Folschviller 1A well By comparison, work already done in the Lorrain basin by Izart et al. [2016]. Show less

The work is based entirely on-site and usually involves the following: - evaluate offset data before the start of drilling - analyse, evaluate and describe formations while drilling, using data from sources such as cuttings, gas, measuring while drilling (MWD) and logging while drilling (LWD) tools, and wireline logs - compare data gathered during formation evaluation measurement while drilling (FEMWD) with predictions made at the exploration stage - advise on drilling hazards and drilling bit optimisation - make decisions about suspending or continuing drilling - advise operations personnel on-site and in the operations office - attend rig meetings after each shift takes over and call the operations geologist with updates - acting as the representative of the onshore oil company geology team - supervise mudlogging, MWD and LWD, core logging and wireline services teams, and monitor quality control in relation to these services - keep detailed records, write reports, complete daily, weekly and post-well reporting logs and send these to appropriate departments - maintain up-to-date knowledge of MWD tools, such as gamma ray and resistivity, as geosteering becomes increasingly important - communicate regularly with onshore operations offices - take the lead on health and safety at the wellsite.
