My work looks on two dimethylated sulfur compounds (DMSP and DMSO) in the sea ice brine habitat. DMSP and DMSO are two biogenic precursors of dimethylsulfur (DMS), a climate active gas in the atmosphere, and are produced by photosynthetic organisms in response to environmental stress (temperature, salinity, light, oxygen,...). Mainly, I focus on temperature and salinity as drivers of DMSP and DMSO production by conducting an experimental approach with two emblematic polar algae Fragilariopsis cylindrus and Phaeocystis antarctica. - Conception and building of new experimental setups and data collection - Laboratory work (living organisms and lab equipment (gas chromatography, fluorimetry, microscopy,...)) - Data analysis, scientific communication (talk and posters) and outreach Scientific achievements - 2 papers as 1st author - 1 paper as co-author in Nature Biology Communication (https://www.nature.com/articles/s42003-018-0228-y) - Best Poster Award at the IGS Symposium 2019 in Winnipeg, Canada (see below) Show less

    • Internship in development cooperation
      • Jul 2014 - Jul 2014

This project aimed to develop a new lamellar decanter to purify the Jatropha's oil. This internship was a collaboration between the "Cellule de Coopération au Développement de l'Ecole Polytechnique de Bruxelles" (CODEPO, ULB) and the NGO "Groupement pour l’Exploitation Rationnelle de l’Energie Solaire" (GERES). The work has been distributed between the Université Libre de Bruxelles (conception, lab tests, design of prototypes,...) and the city of Koutiala, Mali (final version, tests in real conditions, discussion with local partners,...) During this internship, I developed the following skills: - project management, planification and respect of scope statement - teamworking and communication Show less
