As we were trying to disrupt long-standing industry practice and assumptions (in three completely unrelated industries), Boris brought order and discipline, as well as passion and levity, to our growing company. Boris never lost site of the fact that work is not simply about numbers; it’s people. From structuring and executing with our team internally, to creating partnerships with other companies, to building relationships with customers, he always tied things back to the fact that although we were a scientifically-focused company, working with scientists, engineers, salespeople, operators...they’re all people. Boris noticeably excels at going back and forth between strategic, blue ocean thinking, and probing his own and others’ analysis of the details required to row the boat across that ocean. As a perfect example, Boris was instrumental in conceptual strategy and work - setting up and moderating brainstorming sessions - to the tactical execution - turning one of the ideas into a practical reality - that moved our business forward. Boris was key in organizing the efforts to come up with, prototype, test (with clients and distribution partners), and ultimately, build and sell a piece of equipment that would allow us to sell our primary product, a chemical, to a relatively large subset of customers who wouldn't otherwise be willing or able to buy and use the consumable. Discussions, interactions, even emails with Boris are intellectually stimulating but easy - he’s brilliant but also very warm, friendly, and approachable. I would welcome any opportunity to work with him again
