Mechanical tradesman working in Reduction Lines 1 & 2 and A & B Scrubbing plants. As well as general maintenance activities was involved in diagnosis and fault finding on compressors and hydraulic systems. Moved to the Machine Shop in 1988 performing machining work in the first 4 years. Jobs included turning components for equipment repairs as well as making new equipment. Specialised in more challenging work on the horizontal borer like boring out bodies for screw compressors, large rotary breakers for the ship unloader and re-machining on excavator booms. Performed fitting work including overhaul of hydravane and screw compressors used in the Reduction lines and scrubbing plants. Performed insitu repair of large roots type blower on the Shipunloader.Set up and operated the hydraulic test facility, testing and repairing pumps, motors, valves, enerpac units and cylinders. Designed and build a cylinder repair bench for the whole range of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders excluding the very large furnace tilt cylinders. Supervised the hydraulic hose making facility and developed a training package to teach tradespeople how to make hydraulic hoses correctly and safely. Was involved in the set up and operation of a compressor test facility to run hydravane compressors after overhaul.Taught apprentices hands on skill during this time and got involved in safety improvement work.

Re-developed WW2 Charcoal Gas Producer technology to provide an energy source for generating electricity for the facility. This replaced the diesel generator previously used. Provided technical training and support for local people working at the facility. Provided maintenance support for the facility. Worked on other development projects as needed.
