After acquiring the original Quiknet wireless network from Surewest Communications, I founded Central Valley Broadband with the assistance of my partner from my previous company, Quiknet. Over the next decade, with a team of inside and outside technicians, designed and expanded a Wireless ISP from less than 100 customers on 3 POP sites to nearly 4000 subscribers on nearly a hundred sites. Created a robust OSPF based network riding on Mikrotik routers with data transported over a combination of Ubiquiti Airfibers and licensed links providing service up to 25meg in rural areas of northern California's gold country. With my partner, we started the first Dial Up ISP in the Sacramento region. From small beginnings with a 56K internet feed and 10 modems we created a company serving thousands of subscribers state wide. Our ISP featured our own spam resistant in house mail server and services ranging from basic dial up to dedicated circuits, ISDN centrex data service and DSL. In the later years of the company we pioneered the use of Wifi in an outdoor setting to provide what was at the time, fast dedicated… Show more With my partner, we started the first Dial Up ISP in the Sacramento region. We also used our wireless technology to feed apartment complexes which had no DSL options from the local telco. We used short haul DSL within these complexes to provide service to customers. ultimately we sold the company to the local ILEC telco. I was hired to complete a major software/hardware project to replace a PDP11 based system providing Computer Aided Dispatch / 911 service for the Sacramento Sheriffs department. Based on my previous experience writing software systems to interface diverse systems, my task was to integrate E911, Officer mobile terminal systems and various law enforcement, state and federal database systems into a seamless experience for emergency call center operators and dispatchers.
