    • Difference between 2.1 and 5.1 home theater system
      • Mar 2009 - Present

A 2.1 speaker system provides two bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer. A bookshelf speaker general contains a midbass and a tweeter. The midbass is used for midrange frequencies in your audio and the tweeter is used for high range frequencies. These 2 speakers will be placed on the left and right side of your TV or home entertainment center. They will provide adequate sound and allow for some perspective with left/right audio sounds (I.e. a car in a movie driving by from the left to the right)The ".1" represents the subwoofer. In most package deals for 2.1 or 5.1 systems, this subwoofer will be passive, meaning it receives all power from the receiverA 5.1 system is a bit more complex and will give you that true surround sound feeling. It will give you 4 bookshelf speakers and a center channel speaker. The center channel speaker sits in front of the TV, then you have the two front speakers on the left and right, and finally two rear speakers on your left and rightThe utilization of a 5.1 system can vary depending on your audio signal. If you are using component cables (red and white) you will have a left front output and a right front output and the center channel will be a merger of the two. The rear gets a bit trickier. If you have a decent receiver with your 5.1 package, it will be able to detect which sounds should be played in the background (explosions, musical beats, etc) while talking will generally be played in the front.Making things easier.2.1 - speaker is just right in of you. Thats all5.1 - special surround from the back to make the sound more realistic. If you want to know more details, please check our website: http://www.itoogee.com, or email me asap. Show less
