I worked the first half of my term under the CAD group editing layout drawings of proposed packaging lines, preparing deliverables for client meetings, and learning about the packaging industry as a whole. The second half was spent in the field in a bottling plant in Illinois where Haskell just had a 24 hour bottling line it designed installed. I was there to assist in the start up of the line, working to increase the efficiency of the line. I worked under two senior manufacturing engineers in charge of two large, diesel engine assembly lines. I worked closely with the operators on both lines to create jigs, and fixtures to help make their jobs easier and more efficient. My work was in an effort to increase production rate on both lines. I designed the fixtures using 2D AutoCAD and then worked with local fabricators and machine shops to build the devices.
