My thesis project is focused on the Scutellaria genus, a potential medicinal, and ornamental crop. Research objectives include comparison of Scutellaria baicalensis to Florida native Scutellaria species, manipulation of light quality in controlled environments to maximize pharmaceutically active metabolites, quantification of price, and quality of existing products to develop enterprise budgets, and communication of project outcomes with producers, processors, and entrepreneurs. Methods used in experimental design include HPLC, DNA barcoding, flow cytometry, tissue culture, etc. Show less
