BEEA (Builders, Engineers, Explorers & Artists previously Hackersnl) is a monthly returning event in Utrecht, The Netherlands bringing together hackers, engineers, builders, makers, artists & all those interested in technology and it's impact on society. The event usually consists of three parts: a short 'ice-breaker' introduction round to get an impression of the people present, a 30 to 45 min thorough technical presentation on a topic such as a programming language (Haskell, Scala, Lua etc) or hardware like Jeenode, LAOS (Laser Open Source) followed by a 30 to 45 min presentation of technology in a broader context like the Quantified Self movement, Open Source development practices and having fun with the Arduino Lillypad. After the presentations there's always plenty of room for some informal discussions & having a drink with eachother. Show less

The goal of the Open Media Foundation (Stichting Open Media) was to encourage creativity within the different types of current and future media forms and the sharing of knowledge. We were focussed on Simuze -- an online music platform to legally share music and exchange music, using Creative Commons licenses, between artists and fans. As co-founder and member of the board I was mainly occupied with the long-term strategy and vision. Together with my fellow board members I also dealt with the daily practice such as maintenance and future development of Simuze. Show less

As an external supervisor connected to the Utrecht School of the Arts. I supervise and coach students in realizing real world projects. Students are gently introduced into working on projects with real clients and this allows them to (mostly for the first time) experience what working on a real project with a real client means. • Backend-developer / Frontend-developer / Assistent of Public Research
      • Nov 2002 - Nov 2006

I've fulfilled several roles during the time I worked at Waag society: Initially I started out as a backend-developer. In this position I was responsible for the development of php based backend systems. After some time my role changed into frontend-developer. As a frontend-developer I've built interfaces for both physical installations and (web)applications using Flash, Javascript (X)HTML and CSS. My background in interaction design was very helpful in this role. Finally I changed from position again and became the assistant of the director of Public Research -- a small part of Waag Society which was focussed on technology and it's impact om society. In this role I was mostly involved with advocating Creative Commons licenses and setting up Creative Commons Netherlands. My activities focussed on promoting Creative Commons and the ideas behind it by writing articles, organizing meetings, giving presentations, producing a cd/dvd, developing and maintaining (both technically as well as content) the Creative Commons Netherlands website.
