The main topic of my PhD project was to explore mitochondria as a potential target for cancer cell elimination. To this end we employed several different approaches to either directly destabilize mitochondria and induce tumour cell death, or to modulate mitochondrial metabolism in order to sensitize cancer cells to conventional anticancer drugs. Our findings revealed an important role of mitochondrial Complex II in the sensitivity of cancer cells towards chemotherapy.
