Penetration Tester / Security Researcher (Industrial Placement)

During the course of my placement, I worked alongside several departments. I started in Research and Development then moved to System Administration and finished in the Penetration Testing department. Penetration Testing: Worked on developing API testing services at the company. I regularly performed API tests singlehandedly. I was involved in several web application tests and other non-standard projects.System Administration: A large portion of my placement was spent on building an internal training lab for testers to prepare for certifications. This involved setting up DC, DNS and other domain and network services, most based on Linux. Creating a vulnerable environment gave me experience in system administration and helped me to understand what makes systems vulnerable. Development: I built several internal applications and wrote various scripts that helped testers perform their job more efficiently. I also worked on the company’s new website (www.nta-monitor.com).Working in different departments gave me a thorough understanding of the day to day activities in all four of these areas, which helps me perform penetration testing more thoroughly.
