Work as part of a team that grew more than 4500 pounds of fresh vegetables that were donated to local Calvert County food pantries in 2015. Build and maintain demonstration gardens, modeling many methods of farming/gardening that are sustainable and restorative. These methods use the following criteria: • Improve soil health by minimizing soil disturbance, adding organic matter, keeping plants growing in soil, matching soil biota to plants, and using deep rooted plants. • Improve insect services by increasing insect diversity which improves ecosystem health and increases beneficial pollinator/predator insects. • Improve plant services by companion planting in order to make nutrients available, shade soil to reduce water loss and extreme temperatures, attract beneficial insects, and maintain life in the soil. Provide educational tours and programs to gardeners, farmers and students. Show less
