Payless Cost Consultants approached me with the Kickstart programme; a scheme that helps young adults return back to work. The first month at this job was purely training, learning about the company and the services they offer, getting used to the CRM and the internet dialling system. I would contact business directors, offering our services to reduce business rates and utility bills. After a few months of generating leads I was able to start closing my own deals. As a result, of doing this I was asked to close the rest of the reps deals as well. Consequently, this led to a promotion to a Business Development Manager. Independently, I was generating clients with the leads from other team members. I was a main core of the business having regular meetings with the director and helping making decisions on how to help build the company. For example, starting up a call centre in Iran was an idea we both came up with to help generate even more leads for the business to secure more clients. I stayed above all my KPI’s and was even a key inspiration to the newcomers of the company, this helped me build my confidence. Show less

As this was a completely different industry to what I’m used to, I felt like I was really testing myself with new challenges as well as developing more of my skill set. I had to learn new systems and software such as Freshdesk, GDS Sabre, internal booking systems and virtual payments. My tasks within this role was to answer external calls from clients querying their booking, requesting hotels to be booked and making sure this meets their specific policy. Internally within the business I had to make sure the virtual payments were set up correctly, as this was the usual procedure and if for any occasion the hotel didn’t accept virtual payments, I had to request a bank transfer from our finance team. What I have learnt within this job role is how to speak to corporate clients and understand their needs, whilst working alongside my team to reach our service-level agreement. Show less

Having sales experience from my previous roles, I adjusted to this role smoothly. We had strict KPIs that I met on a regular basis and there was potential progression to become a team leader. Within this role I had to phone up future customers and sell them our product, loft insulation. As the majority of the calls were cold calling it helped me improve on my conflict resolution and how to build a relationship with the customer within a matter of minutes. To make sure there was a higher chance of a sale I studied the product, whether it would be suitable for certain loft types and what the pros were. Learning about the product in detail helped me prepare for when the client would ask “what’s in it for me?” or “how does this benefit me?” preventing them from doubting the product. Show less
