Class Management Grade 7 In this module you will be teaching a diverse class of 7th graders at Metropolis Middle School. Their regular science teacher is on long-term leave. While you are new to this group, they've been with each other for some time and are familiar with classroom expectations and routines. The teacher has left a lesson plan focused on environmental issues, specifically the results of acid rain. You will be teaching the class for 5 sessions 20-30 minutes each with special attention to managing classroom climate, student behavior, and helping the class as a whole be productive. The lesson plan has relatively few tasks, but they do ask for attention, concentration, and collaboration from the students. Choose tasks, sequencing, and pacing based on your observation of student need. Do not feel that you need to assign all tasks in the first class that you teach -- remember you'll have these students for multiple sessions. If, after teaching one or two sessions, you've assigned all tasks, think deeply about your observation report and teach the remaining classes taking time to modify strategies, comments, and tasks to see if you can improve student outcomes.
