  I volunteered as a research assistant, for a period of 1 month, focusing on large mammal and fynbos biodiversity research. This voluntary role was both exhilarating and educational in which I performed extensive research on the impact that large mammals have on the Cape Floral Kingdom, with a particular emphasis on the damage caused to the fynbos biome. During this role I assisted conservational researchers in their scientific research and participated in a myriad of physically demanding roles. I was specifically involved in the data collection and the data entry of vegetation surveys, bird counts and game transects. Roles also included observational studies regarding elephant foraging, and collection of elephant dung in order to monitor their stress levels in the South African drought. In addition to my research role, I also completed an advanced African wildlife conservation and management course, provided by Wildlife Ecological Investments.
