The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a $270 million non-profit organization and is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the world. Developed and built financial and operational infrastructure allowing a mature and growing organization to continue to succeed. Key advisor and strategic partner to CEO, executive team and Board of Directors. Managed processes and reporting for board committees (Finance and Audit). Managed various teams including: Controller, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Real Estate, Facilities, and Procurement. Recruited a new Controller and built a new FP&A team, hiring a new Vice President of FP&A to lead this group. This team was created to partner with operational departments to provide better analytical support and we were able to accomplish this without adding incremental headcount by restructuring the existing organization. Working with investment banker to negotiate a $20 million tax exempt debt financing for new construction. Successfully built relationships across the organization, improving communications and involvement by promoting and encouraging service orientation within the culture of my teams. Successfully led several large and concurrent real estate and construction projects. Negotiated terms with vendors resulting in cost savings that reducing costs by over $1 million in the first year. Oversaw and restructured administrative functions – including the accounting and finance, IT, fleet and building management and HR and benefits. The CFO position was newly created at MOWSF, and my main goal was to upgrade the infrastructure where it existed, and newly build the infrastructure where it did not. MOWSF has grown its service to double over the last seven years and is expected to double again in the same period going forward. Strategic Planning – led the finance related aspects for the search for new facilities, including the potential utilization of New Markets Tax Credits as a funding source. Accounting/Finance – Upgraded the accounting team hiring a new Controller, developed significantly improved financial reporting to the Board of Directors and senior management and developed financial models to more efficiently run the operations. Risk Management – Analyzed and improved the organization’s risk profile, resulting in safety/risk improvements to the organization as well as cost and coverage improvements for Property/Liability/Workers' Compensation/ and Management Liability. Human Resources – Restructured the employee benefits package to provide more alternatives, expanding coverage and at the same time containing costs. Reinstituted various best practices including annual performance evaluations, merit based pay increases and restructured pay scales within the organization. Oversaw successful payroll conversion from Paychex to ADP. Information technology – hired newly created position Director of IT, and mapped out a two-year roadmap where operational and administrative processes would be streamlined and automated, dramatically reducing duplicated entries and providing better metrics and information for analysis. Fleet and Building – hired a new manager and instituted more rigorous fleet maintenance and building maintenance regimens. Instituted various safety controls including vehicle GPS and Dashboard Cameras in MOWSF vehicles. Show less
