Co-founded a hockey blog dedicated to covering the Calgary Flames from a different perspective. Utilised engineering skillset to explore novel aspects of the NHL, such as using anthropometric data to analyse hockey plays. Created effective data visualisations using hockey data to enhance both hockey storytelling and hockey analytics. The blog currently has an international audience with hundreds of thousands of annual readers. Our social media reaches over a thousand followers across various sites. We’ve been able to seek out sponsorship opportunities and maintained relations given the wide reach of the blog. Maintained daily editing of multiple articles across various hockey topics, with edits made to adhere to self-developed hockey style guide, as well as increasing SEO per article. Expanded to more hockey markets, including the Edmonton Oilers (theoilrig.ca). Presented personal approach to creating hockey data visualisations at the Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey Analytics Conference at the Nationwide Arena on February 8, 2020. Presented a live-coding session using R and the "tidyverse" for creating data visualisations during ISOLHAC 2020, a fully online hockey analytics conference on May 9, 2020.

Data Analyst

Analysed quantitative and qualitative user data on a daily basis to get up-to-date product insights to share with the product team, executives, and other departments.Collaborated with product owners to design experiments to test product hypotheses across various areas of the tool to increase user engagement and retention.Designed and assisted in the development of an in-house solution for user tracking for experiments to ensure user segmentation is true to expectations and statistical analysis is correct. My main responsibility was to research and bring forward projects to prioritisation that had potential to have big impacts on company goals and key results. Communicated impactful areas with stakeholders and deeply researched users both quantitatively and qualitatively to understand pain points and areas of improvement.Constantly maintained the product backlog, balanced enterprise user requests, and researched additional avenues to impact user retention and increase revenue. Gave thorough feedback through the lens of our customers throughout the product development process from initial design, prototypes, and user tests using Figma/Figjam.Managed multiple squads (retention, revenue, enterprise) with varying product designers and developers to run experiments at a high frequency and ship product features. Aided in helping teams prioritise their work and keeping the scope of work true to the original product designs. Validated initial hypotheses with in-depth reports and analyses.Worked with our enterprise team on bigger projects, including "Workspaces" which significantly changed how enterprise teams use the tool in a collaborative manner. Made decisions on which features to prioritise and which can be scoped out to progress the team towards the delivery of the feature.Initiated a product-wide revision of event data tracking to conform to best practises after recognising that previous tracking implementations often missed critical events and/or properties. Educated product designers and developers on the data tracking standard and upheld the data governance requirements to slowly improve internal data collection. The new data tracking framework saved time for all designers as data implementation became clearer with fewer areas of uncertainty.

Information Designer

Created data-driven copy and visuals for the graphic design team to turn into visual templates. Researched various industries such as sales and finance, learning and development, change management, healthcare, and more, to gain foundational understandings of user pain points to create copy and visuals that can empower users to get their work done more effectively.Managed and collaborated on the development of a data visualisation tool used to create charts through a guided data journey, enabling the users of the tool to increase their data literacy and produce useful charts for simple and effective use cases. Utilised best practises for data visualisation techniques to uphold data readability and ease-of-use.Managed and collaborated on the development of a video editor used to create short videos designed for creative ads and internal company communications.Developed internal product research procedure to document, summarise, and share research findings in digestible formats for the product team as well as cross-departmental communications.Developed new internal communication slide decks for better company alignment during meetings with emphasis on more effective communications and information retention.Contributed to company culture by designing data-driven surveys and visuals to help coworkers onboard and get to know the team with more meaningful insights.

Orthodontic Biomechanics Researcher

Master of Science student under Drs. Jason Carey and Dan Romanyk. My research was geared towards the biomechanical measurements of orthodontic appliances.My thesis involved the implementation of camera systems to take photos and understand the behaviour of orthodontic appliances under torsional loading. This is important in the orthodontic industry as it leads to a fundamental understanding of archwire-to-bracket interactions during clinical treatment. Using the images, we performed digital image correlation (a discipline of computer vision) to obtain full-field archwire deformations and strains captured at a small scale using an in vitro torque apparatus.In addition, I have investigated the arch expansion capabilities of lingual orthodontic appliances and have presented a poster at the 8th World Congress of Biomechanics in July 2018. I was able to share our findings to a broad audience interested in biomechanics. Our group collaborates with industrials partners to provide them with biomechanical data regarding their orthodontic products.

Taught students the fundamentals of SolidWorks in a lab setting for the MEC E 265 course. Provided students with help regarding solid modelling and drawing techniques. Emphasised the value of best practises in solid modelling and the application of GD&T. Graded assignments and provided students with detailed feedback on a weekly basis. Assisted with course development by helping make assignments and providing solutions. Collaborated with course instructors and other teaching assistants to uphold the best student experience possible in the course.

Rotary Steerable R&D - Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student

Worked under the Sperry Drilling division of Halliburton. Designed and analysed Geo-Pilot rotary steerable drilling system. Revised assembly procedures to safely apply torque to components in Geo-Pilot assembly. Performed finite element analyses on critical directional drilling components such as driveshafts and driveshaft housing parts. Created solid models and engineering drawings of drilling components and assembly tools. Trusted with reviewing part models and drawings of other engineers. Designed and implemented scheduler tool on Microsoft Excel to help global employees plan and track their project work. Contributed to patentable design to mitigate tool failure during operation by analysing failure methods and conceptualising design changes to existing components.

Pilot Plant Testing - Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student

Worked at the CanmetENERGY Devon Research Centre of Natural Resources Canada. Developed pilot plant operations to test new froth treatment methods for Total and CNRL. Modified and repaired froth treatment equipment such as pumps, vessels, gauges, and piping. Collected and analysed samples of froth, diluted bitumen (dilbit), and tailings during proprietary process testing. Practised safe workplace protocol including hazard identification and mitigation. Monitored and operated plant control board to make process temperature and pressure changes. Procured equipment and supplies for plant upgrades and additional projects.
