Apr 2022 - Sep 2022
The first ever Calgary Pop-Up Care Village took place at Olympic Plaza on Tuesday, September 27th, 2022. The festival designed for anyone experiencing systemic vulnerabilities attracted over 600 guests. Modelled after LavaMae’s Pop-Up Care Village in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Calgary Pop-Up Care Village provide equitable access to basic services such as case management, healthcare, clothing, haircuts, food and more to the street. As the event coordinator, I serve as the primary event organizer for this festival. It all started as an idea in the summer of 2021 and it finally came to fruition in 2022. From communicating to city administration to AHS public health inspectors, from applying for grants and fundings to inquiring regarding sponsorships and partnerships, I was able to create a network of 28 nonprofits, individuals, and businesses who all wanted to serve the vulnerable population, and recruited over 50+ volunteers from all across Calgary in a mere team of two.
