Merged with B&B Electric and became a company with $13MM in sales revenue and approximately 80 employees. As the Executive Vice President and Manager of the low voltage division responsible for developing the low voltage markets of fire alarm, temperature controls and structured cabling. Under my direction we became a Johnson Controls Authorized Building Control Specialist (ABCS) which allowed us to sell and install Johnson Controls Building Automation Products. In this capacity I designed, supervised the installation of, programmed and commissioned JCI DDC (Distributed Data Control) Temperature Control Systems and Fire Alarm Systems. Also trained a workforce of installers for structured cabling systems for data distribution in automated buildings.

Goodson & Woods was an electrical contractor firm specializing in commercial and light industrial construction projects. Prepared estimates, bid projects, acted as project manager as well as business manager and supervised employees. Projects included the expansion of Colorado Correctional facilities, construction of large hotels, additions to VA Hospital facilities, and large residential installations. From initial sales of $1.0MM/year I increased sales to $2.1 MM/yr. and grew our workforce from 12 electricians to 20 electricians.

Engineering Manager

As the manager of the Engineering Division of the municipally owned LL&P responsible for providing technical expertise and support for the utility. Supervised a department of approximately 8 - 10 people. Responsible for design of new distribution facilities, performing technical studies for protective device coordination, system expansions and power quality problems, performing economic evaluations of proposed capital improvement projects, implementing a new SCADA system, implementing a new Geographical Information System (GIS) and working with the development community on electrical development issues.

As a member of the Anheuser Busch project management team duties included management of the design contractor, quality assurance of the electrical construction of a new Budwiser Brewery, and commissioning and start-up of the new facilities. The Brewery has approximately 130 networked Allen Bradly PLC-3 and PLC-5 programmable logic controllers. Also commissioned the electrical system consisting of 5 kV distribution with 480/277 V and 120 V utilization voltages. Assigned to the Prudhoe Bay oilfield to lead the pre-commissioning and to participate in the start-up efforts for the new construction at Prudhoe Bay (approximately $800 million per year), Responsible for the checkout and pre-commissioning of the electrical and control systems for the new facilities. Work included developing the testing and checkout procedures for gas turbine generators, large electrical motor systems, electrical switchgear, relaying, PLC controllers, fire alarm, emergency shut-down systems and instrumentation systems and for the process instrumentation and control systems. Facilities included flow stations, pumping stations, gas injection plants and a seawater treatment plant. I was also responsible for administration of the contracts for the testing contractors, maintaining as-built drawings and coordinating FCO (Functional Checkout) efforts with the Construction and Operations Divisions.

Relay and Control Engineer

Initially hired by the Bureau of Reclamation, my position became part of the newly formed Department of Energy’s Western Area Power Administration. Responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the Operations Division for the WAPA interconnected transmission system and the Bureau hydroelectric system for the Big Thompson and Colorado River Storage Projects. Duties included designing substation and hydroelectric generation plant modifications and upgrades, reviewing protective relaying operations under fault conditions and making recommendations for changes and modifications, commissioning new substations and switchyards, participating in stage fault tests on a new 230 kV and a new 345 kV transmission lines and implementing interim Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
