I fueled growth for this iconic school by leveraging passion for its mission, my vision for its success, leadership and a lot of learning. My vision included upgrades and new construction to keep the institution a competitive and desirable choice. I ushered change across the campus by overseeing $20M in capital expansion and renovation projects that transformed the face of the organization and drove enviable enrollment rates. I also minimized financial impact by championing our mission, goals, and vision to key supporters to fund projects with no need for external financing – zero debt. I also fostered smooth running day-to-day operations by managing ongoing maintenance and safety for the 45-acre campus. Construction Project ManagementAll projects incorporated RFP, project planning, licenses & permits, space planning/ construction plans, demolition, electrical, drywall, new flooring/ carpet HVAC, utilities, plumbing/ restrooms: • Stadium and Plaza: $3.2M, 2 yr. project included restroom bldg., track, artificial turf, seating for 1700• Athletic Field House: $7M; fitness center, locker rooms, HVAC, new boilers and feeder improvements• The Nicolas Center: $3.8M; 7 new classrooms, commons area and new staff lounge• Renovations: $2.5M; 3 state-of-the-art science and 3 Arts/Graphic Arts classrooms• Tennis Courts: $620K; excavating, bituminous substrate, topcoat, fencing, and court infrastructure.Facilities Maintenance and Operations Leadership• Lowered maintenance costs and raised quality by contracting for services that allowed for fewer FTEs, restored building pride, and saved 20% in labor and supplies expense• Safeguarded onsite health and safety by enacting COVID response plan including supplies, approved PPE for staff, and aligning protocols with CDC, DOE, and State guidelines• Reduced energy costs 15% by managing $2M in upgrades to energy management systems including boilers, heating water flow, and new rooftop units and saved $25K annually

Director Of Enrollment
-
Jun 2012 - Dec 2013
While managing capital expansion projects and keeping the facility clean, safe, and running smoothly, I was asked to assist the school’s Admissions Director troubleshoot and restore declining enrollment to an upward trend. I brought my brand of leadership and vision for turning this around and nothing else, I had never done enrollment before. But, by analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, we built a snapshot of the situation and took the first steps to halting the decline and then reversing it. We analyzed various processes, budgeting, marketing and programs and then I stepped back while the team fine-tuned things to reach out to and raise the interest of students and their families. The decline did stabilize, mostly due to the talent of the director. She was eminently qualified, and I provided what she needed to become more effectual. With my support, she did the work of aligning the budget, staff and marketing outreach to goals that resulted in regular increases to enrollment from 2013 through 2020 – and the future looks bright!

Having succeeded as an entrepreneur, I felt a calling to give back to the school that had done so much for me and shaped the person I was to become. I wasn’t sure how I could contribute as my experiences didn’t seem to align with anything I felt they needed. As I networked over time, I was offered the opportunity to help this nonprofit institution raise needed funds. Again, having never done something like this before, I could only develop a vision for what success should look like. I then proceeded to transform fundraising and brought new success to the school. My efforts helped stabilize finances and provided additional funding for new projects because I took ownership of the program. I worked to improve social venues, where a lot of networking and fundraising occurs, and then shifted donation methodologies, models, and targets. It worked to perfection. Average donation amounts increased by researching key donor prospects, outreaching, sharing the vision, and cultivating additional monetary gifts through capital and annual fund campaigns. Here are some of the highlights and turnarounds I accomplished:• Increased overall donations 10% by developing key relationships with successful alumni and connecting passion and vision to donors, that produced new revenue and renewed connections. • Revived failing golf tournament from $0 to $18K avg. annual revenue by upgrading professional image, creating sponsorships and promoting on social media, resulting in sold out events.• Generated a sports legacy and enrollment driver by applying vision and passion to create and coach girls’ hockey program that consistently placed in conferences, championships and produced US and Korean Olympic Team players, scholarship winners and a generation of women leaders. • Revitalized annual auction to a $1M annual fundraiser by shifting location to the campus that increased sense of connection for key stakeholders, alumni, and fostered continuous event improvement.

Professional Scout and Family Advisor
-
Jan 2011 - Sep 2012
Because it’s in my blood, here’s another entrepreneurial exercise and accomplishment I achieved as an independent professional hockey scout. I used my networking and relationship building skills to represent and manage professional hockey athletes from the perspective of a seasoned pro. I know the market and I know the industry, and more importantly, I knew then that I could succeed. Here are the highlights:• Developed relationships with the player and parents to offer the value of experience to provide insight on the importance of an ethical, reputable agency like NSM to ensure success. • Recruited 1st round draft pick by the NY Rangers in 2012 and will earn an average of $5.25M per year through 2024.

Having succeeded in the previous entrepreneurial endeavor, why not try another? I applied my proven business development skills, vision, and drive to build a turnkey, full-line vending service from the ground up. I did my research, studied the industry, acquired the needed vision and began to build a base of customers by networking and cold calling. By ensuring my plans supported the vision, I was able to forge a network of 10 cash-generating sites for my extensive line of machines. To get there I had to prospect my target market and identify the best locations, ones that had a lot of people on hand and fewer snack and refreshment options. While not easy to find, I did develop a lucrative route that met the needs of my target market and I expanded the venture into a profitable operation in 12 months, with a valuation of $100K at the time of sale.

Having finished my professional hockey career and spending some time to tie up loose ends in Europe, I came back to the US to start… something. I naturally gravitated to becoming an entrepreneur. I researched and started a custom embroidery operation that transformed a vision and passion for relationship-based business into a high-volume operation. I grew the business, starting with a single in-home machine, to 36-head production output operation with enough work to run 2 shifts. With the help of good employees, we created a known brand around our high standard of quality and excellence that garnered 4:1 ratio of long-term vs. short-term clients. In addition to staying abreast of industry trends, technology, and sales, I managed all other aspects of business operations including staffing, accounting, and production. It was a great run.

While playing and achieving, I also worked during the off season to build sales momentum for this company by researching target markets and competitive landscape for state-of-the-art computer mainframe systems. I learned how these systems worked, who would benefit from what they could do, created awareness for and promoted our products into the global market.
