Bio
Libby Romfh
Bill entered IIN in the middle of two large and complex strategic projects, involving a number of cross-functional teams. He quickly met with and conducted stakeholder analysis that enabled him to determine the best way to manage various participants in the projects. He forced the teams to focus long enough to agree on project timelines and marched them through the work that needed to happen. People appreciated working with Bill, his strong and steady hand on the helm, and his patient and calm demeanor, even when – especially when – those around him were being unreasonable or were interjecting more chaos. People often reached out to share praise of Bill's meeting-leadership, and how he refused to get provoked by people’s attitudes in meetings. It was a sign of confidence in Bill that, if a particularly thorny problem emerged, executive leadership asked if I could assign Bill to it, to work his magic. When Bill were promoted to Manager, he immediately stepped in and organized the team with the strong project management skills he used with his projects.

I spent 6 years working on Bill's team as a direct report at FreshDirect and I can't speak highly enough about the experience. His management style was never one of micromanaging or distrust, but rather empowerment and positive reinforcement. Bill really wanted to see us all succeed and do our best work, and worked hard at all times to ensure we had all the tools, skills, and information we needed in order to do so. His commitment to the team extended well beyond outputs and the day to day work. Bill is an extremely caring, kind, and thoughtful person and the degree of emphasis he put on team culture and morale is indicative of that. Bill's organizational skills and attention to detail were second to none. Any time he took the lead on managing a project our team was working on, I could always take comfort knowing every task would be clearly outlined and communicated, no detail would be missed, and that expectations would be realistic and clear from the outset. Any time a new process was introduced or a team member took on a new responsibility, I could always count on Bill to create informative, clear, and concise training guides. I've never had a better and more thorough training experience than I did learning from Bill. Bill isn't just a manager, he's a leader - one who leads by example. It was a wonderful and informative experience working with him and he would be an asset to any company, in any capacity.
