In this role I have had the opportunity to work on a $280 million highway expansion project on the IH 10 corridor. The 10 mile project runs through the city of Sealy and comprises of rebuilding and expanding the Interstate Highway 10 from a two to three lane roadway on each direction and, rebuild the frontage roadway with two lanes in each direction. At the onset of the project as an entry level engineer I had the unique exposure of bidding the project as an estimator and then being part of the construction team. The project has truly provided me an understanding of the highway construction business and my ability to contribute and full fill my ambition of becoming a valuable construction engineer and a manager. The key scopes of work of which I have been able to work on this project are Earthwork - encompassing excavation, embankment, subgrade treatment and placement of plant and road mixed base, Walls - encompassing MSE retaining walls, Soundwalls and Sheet piles, and Concrete pavement construction. In addition to this I have managed subcontracted works of Removals - removing existing asphalt and concrete pavements, flatwork, asphalt pavement construction as detours and permanent intersections, seeding and sodding, roadway signs and guardrails, Sheet pile and MSE retaining walls. Worked on a Temple Construction project in Allen,TX. My main responsibilities over here include; • Monitoring the project progress with respect to the project schedule and drawings. I was involved in the construction of Eastside III project which comprised three multi-family residential buildings and two retail units. The Eastside III project was located in the East-Liberty area of Pittsburgh. During my time over there I worked under a Construction Manager from Michael Baker and I was involved in executing various on-field and off-field work activities. • Conducted punchlist inspection-Structural, Building envelope, Architectural and MEP. • Took initiative and prepared the commissioning plan. • Project control- Tracked and updated the Schedule. Identified areas that needed action and addressed the issues in the weekly owner-contractor meeting. • Reviewed the contract documents and monitored its compliance by the contractor. • Document Control- Reviewed the RFI’s, CI’s, RCO’s and CO’s, and updated the logs. • Assessed the impact of CO’s on the total project cost and its effect on the contingency. • Reconciled the quantities presented in the bill by referring to the as-built drawings and performing on field measurements. • Influenced the extension of the Construction Manager’s contract after analyzing situation of the project. • Conducted post-tension rebar inspections. • Acted as the owner representative for start-up operations.
