    • SRC Vice Chairperson
      • Aug 2014 - Aug 2015

The SRC Vice Chairperson on the NWU-Puk is responsible for various activities and tasks. The first is that you serve as manager of the rest of the SRC members, to keep the group functioning well and keep the reputation and image of the SRC as good as possible. One is further responsible for the group working together as well as discipline in the group that includes dealing with tough matters like hearings, warnings and fines of colleagues. The biggest activity that I had to organize was the reception and orientation programme for the first years to the campus. It starts from late in the previous year with communication to prospective students, to all the arrangements for the first day they arrive with their parents (around 10000 people) and the two weeks of academics, culture, sport and other activities to introduce them to campus. The biggest part of the programme right from planning down to execution is in the students' hands, with support, guidance and help from the personnel of the university.I had a committee of 28 members that helped me with this. I had to manage them, oversee their work and keep them on their toes whilst handling the administrative part of the programme and reporting to management.I had another committee also working under me, the Student Interests Executive Committee. It was 7 people and together we were responsible for the student interests on campus and seeing to it that students' interests get catered for in the hostels. As Vice Chairperson I served Ex Officio on the Exco of the Campus SRC, NWU Student Oversight Committee, NWU Puk Central Management of Residences and was elected to the NWU Institutional Forum. The SRC of the NWU Potchefstroom Campus is apolitical. One therefore gets chosen on merit and not by association.
