Chair of Finance & Staffing - School governing body (Voluntary)
-
Jan 2016 - Apr 2020
I decided to become a School governor because I wanted to give something back to the school, however at the same time expand my knowledge of Financial, Budget and Staf management. Initially voted in as a parent governor (for a 4 year term) I was approached to take on the role of chair of the Finance and staffing committee, this includes responsibilities such as evaluating effectiveness of spending decisions and staff matters. For example:The Finance Committee advises the Full Governing Body on:1. The annual budget plan2. The availability of Grant funding3. The solvency of the School and the safeguarding of its assets4. The overall financial strategy and financial forecasting of the School5. The annual estimate of income and expenditure6. Capital Plan and Annual Capital programme7. Annual accounts8. Financial forecasts9. Overall borrowing requirements including any overdraft facility if applicable10. Financial implications of the acquisition and disposal of land and property, and proposals for the development of the Schools buildings and Grounds11. Matters relating to the Schools Trading activity.12. Review staffing matters as appropriateAlthough the governing body has a statutory responsibility for the oversight of most areas of school life, including financial management, a great deal of responsibility is often delegated to the head teacher.A big role with lots of responsibilities despite it being a voluntary.
