      The NUS Black Students’ Campaign the largest movement of its kind in Europe representing more than one million students of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean heritage in over 600 colleges and universities across Britain. Representing students at a local and national level on wide ranging issues that affect Black students My responsibilities includes: • Organising Black History Month events, writing reports for student council meetings and Organising all aspects of our winter and summer national conferences; • Securing and managing funding to organise young Black Women students to attend the first Black Student Campaign Women’s national conference; • Researching, writing and designed a series of resources to support students running anti-racism campaigns – including a series of national diversity handbooks; a Black History Month guide with posters; and free education campaign briefing. I frequently prepared and delivered workshops at national conferences to equip students with campaigning and human rights awareness skills.

      Responsibilities: • Organising meetings, events, workshops and conferences; securing the venues, sending speaker invitations, booking travel, accommodation and catering; creating online registration systems, delegate packs and feedback forms. • Managing the dairy of the Black Students’ Officer, prioritising and responding to incoming communications and replying or drafting replies to e-mails, memos or letters. • Briefing the Officer and other staff on all relevant and important issues arising, e.g. agenda papers and minutes; preparing agendas, papers and minutes for meetings as appropriate. • Acting as secretary to the Black Students’ Campaign committee meetings, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and ensuring identified actions are progressed. • Proactively communicating the campaign’s activities and promotional materials both internally and externally, e.g., keeping website, Facebook and Twitter feed up-to-date, maintaining the monthly e-updates and blogs. • Working with my fellow committee members in the campaign, to ensure that effective and pro-active information about the campaign’s work is available to students and staff, and supporting the development and production of guides such as the Black History Month guides and Handbooks. • Providing administrative support to all committee members, particularly in scheduling meetings and events with students and ensuring all necessary meeting requirements are met, such as, booking their travel and accommodation requirements, and the meeting space.
