I wrote and taught the ‘Science Explorers’ syllabus to classes of up to 14 international 10-12 year olds. Although very rewarding, this position was challenging as I had little previous teaching experience. However, I worked hard to make sure that the syllabus was engaging and accessible, researching current key stage 2 curriculums, gathering resources, and liaising with a current science teacher. Working with the children in the classroom was also a challenge, as the children had a wide range of previous knowledge, and knowledge of English, however, it was a very rewarding challenge to meet! During the classes I really developed my own skills in teaching and communication, and I was proud of the work the children and I did together. This experience allowed me to develop my own confidence and ability to work positively in a position of authority, enabling everyone that I am working with to succeed.
