Throughout my placement I had the opportunity to work with paediatric clients, aged 12 months to 6 years old, and their families to help them achieve their goals. In this role I had my own caseload and worked both independently and collaboratively in interprofessional sessions. The skills I have developed in this role so far include: o Completing initial assessments, developmental screenings, and information gathering. o Working within the framework of the circle of security and using floor-based principles of naming, following, and positive leading. o Completing clinical notes (SOAP format), session plans, report writing and clinical handovers. o Effective formal/ informal assessment of and therapy targeting fine motor skills, gross motor skills, pencil grasp, pre-writing skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, social and play skills and toileting independence. o Undertaking occupational therapy sessions solo and joint therapy sessions with speech pathology students. o Liaising with students from other disciplines (e.g., physiotherapy) to support service provision and in interprofessional meetings. o Liaising with external providers such as kindergartens and childcares.
